Bellator 226 main card salaries: Bader and Kongo each earn $100k

Six-figure paydays await the heavyweight headliners of Bellator 226, with champ-champ Ryan Bader and Cheick Kongo earning $100,000 each.

Bader and Kongo top a list of salaries that total $1,041,000 before wins and losses are factored in, according to the California State Athletic Commission.

MMA Junkie today requested and received disclosed salaries from CSAC, which regulates the event on Saturday at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif.

Bader hopes to defend the heavyweight title he won in the Bellator heavyweight grand prix. Longtime standout Kongo is on an eight-fight win streak – the longest of his professional career – and has knocked out two of his past three opponents.

Bellator 226 also features the start of a featherweight grand prix. The event’s main card features to former 145-pound champs including Pat Curran and Daniel Straus.

  • Ryan Bader $100,000 (no win bonus) vs. Cheick Kongo $100,000 (no win bonus)
  • Sam Sicilia ($30,000 to show, $30,000 to win) vs. Pedro Carvalho ($20,000 to show, $20,000 to win)
  • Daniel Straus ($55,000 to show, $55,000 to win) vs. Derek Campos ($60,000 to show, no win bonus)
  • Pat Curran ($60,000 to show, $30,000 to win) vs. Adam Borics ($25,000 to show, $25,000 to win)
  • Emmanuel Sanchez ($55,000 to show, $55,000 to win) vs. Tywan Claxton ($60,000 to show, no win bonus)
  • Gaston Bolanos ($10,000 to show, no win bonus) vs. Daniel Carey ($8,500 to show, $8,500 to win)

Now, the usual disclaimer: The figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes. Additionally, the figures do not include money paid by sponsors. They also do not include any other “locker room” or special discretionary bonuses Bellator could pay.

In other words, the above figures are simply base salaries reported to the commission and do not reflect entire compensation packages for the event.
