TEMECULA, Calif. – Keri Melendez remains unbeaten in her MMA career.

Melendez (4-0 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) showed off both strong striking and solid ground work in her Bellator 229 main-card bout with Mandy Polk as she earned a unanimous-decision victory. The judges’ scorecards were 30-27 across the board as the strawweight Melendez improved to 4-0.

Polk (6-5 MMA, 0-1 BMMA), a Tennessee native making her Bellator debut, came rushing out of her corner at the start of the fight, just to eat a right hand which dropped her. The resulting scramble ended up with Polk in top position, but Melendez expertly worked a triangle choke which came close to catching a finish.

The second was mostly conducted in the standup, where Melendez again got the best of things. This time, she landed a series of strong knees to the body in the clinch.

In the third round, they hit the mat early again, and Melendez again had her way from the bottom. When they scrambled back to their feet late in the final round, Melendez landed a big knee to the chin to punctuate her performance.

Melendez, the wife of former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez, earned the second decision victory of her career. Polk had a three-fight win streak snapped as she lost via decision for the second time in her career.

Bellator 229 takes place Friday at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, Calif. The main card strawweight bout aired on Paramount and streams on DAZN following prelims on MMA Junkie.
