Bill Algeo still open to fighting Giga Chikadze ‘after Cub Swanson whoops that ass’

"

LAS VEGAS – Bill Algeo is certainly frustrated that he lost a fight this weekend, but that doesn’t change some longstanding plans of his.

Algeo (14-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) was expected to face Ricardo Ramos (14-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC) at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 22 event at the UFC Apex, but his opponent was ruled off the card due to the UFC’s COVID protocol.

A win over Ramos would certainly have built additional momentum for Algeo, though it’s not the fight he was originally hoping to book. Following his November win over Spike Carlyle, Algeo had requested a booking with Giga Chikadze – a fight he was asking for even when he was still competing on the regional stage.

Chikadze is fighting Cub Swanson on May 1, instead, but Algeo said it’s a matchup that’s still on his radar.

“He acts like he doesn’t know who I am,” Algeo said. “He acts like he’s the best striker in the UFC. The kid’s delusional, so we’ll see. After Cub Swanson whoops his ass, I’m sure he’ll be begging to fight.”

Whether or not that matchup ever comes to fruition remains to be seen, but “Senor Perfecto” said prior to the fight cancellation, he was planning on bringing a few names to the table following his win.

“I got a few people I want to call out, so we’ll see what happens – in the UFC and outside the UFC,” Algeo said.
