Chael Sonnen savagely urges Jon Jones to walk – not drive – away from the UFC

After preliminary negotiations for a superfight with top heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou fell apart Thursday, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones let his disappointment be known over Twitter.

Jones, in fact, went so far as to intimate at one point that he was willing to walk away from UFC competition for awhile.

It’s been fun you guys, maybe I’ll see you all in a year or two.

That seemed to be the end of things, but one of Jones’ previous nemesis, a man known for running his mouth – either on the mic or social media – couldn’t let him off unscathed.

Chael Sonnen piped up on Twitter on Friday, and the man who coached opposite Jones on “The Ultimate Fighter 17” couldn’t help but take a jab at his former adversary.

Sonnen didn’t just needle Jones for saying he’d step away. He also went right after Jones’ worst moment: The 2016 incident in which he was charged with hit-and-run in Albuquerque, N.M.

NOBODY is gonna care if you WALK AWAY from the UFC, Dum-Dum
Just promise not to DRIVE AWAY, ok???

As far as I can tell, you haven’t put anybody in the hospital by

Real subtle, there, Chael. Why so salty? Well, perhaps it’s due to the way their fight went down. After Sonnen, a middleweight, jumped the line to get a shot at Jones’ belt in 2013 at UFC 159, Jones rag-dolled him before winning by TKO at 4:33 of the opening round.

There’s been some hatred ever since.
