Off Guard: Chuck Liddell talks bare-knuckle boxing, reminisces on old times
LAS VEGAS – Chuck Liddell is one of the most recognizable icons in the history of mixed martial arts.
MMA Junkie recently caught up with Liddell on the grounds of the Joe Weider’s Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend 2019 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Liddell was one of a handful of fighters appearing at the convention. Other guests included Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre.
A UFC Hall of Famer, Liddell is responsible for a large chunk of the sport’s popularity in the modern era. The former light heavyweight champion returned to action in November 2018 for his first fight in over eight years. Unfortunately for Liddell, longtime rival Tito Ortiz finally got his revenge on the man who defeated him twice in their primes when Ortiz knocked out “The Iceman” in the first round.
Did the loss solidify Liddell’s departure from combat sports competition for good? Could Liddell participate in bare-knuckle boxing instead? When he spoke with MMA Junkie, the 49-year-old former champion dished on the rise of bare-knuckle boxing and his opinion on the rising combat sport.
Being in Las Vegas, “The Iceman” also couldn’t help but reminisce on all of the great times he spent in “Sin City.”
