UFC 240 post-event facts: Max Holloway makes more history

The UFC made its return to Canada on Saturday with UFC 240, which went down at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, with a main card that aired on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+/UFC Fight Pass.

In the main event, Max Holloway (21-4 MMA, 17-4 UFC) retained his UFC featherweight title once again with a unanimous-decision victory over Frankie Edgar (23-7-1 MMA, 17-7-1 UFC) that saw “Blessed” connect with 129 significant strikes, which is the fourth highest output of his octagon tenure.

The UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout for the event totaled $173,500.

Geoff Neal, Hakeem Dawodu, Deiveson Figueiredo and Alexandre Pantoja earned $50,000 UFC 240 fight-night bonuses.

Debuting fighters went 0-1 on the card.

UFC 240 drew an announced attendance of 12,144 for a live gate of $1,352,292.20.

Betting favorites went 9-2 on the card.

Betting favorites improved to 10-13 (one fight had even odds) in UFC headliners this year.

Total fight time for the 11-bout card was 2:39:18.

Main card

Holloway’s three consecutive featherweight title defenses are most among current male UFC champions and second most overall behind Amanda Nunes (four).

Holloway became the first champion to record a successful title defense immediately after suffering a loss since B.J. Penn accomplished the feat at UFC 101.

Holloway, 27, became the youngest fighter in history to earn 17 UFC wins.

Holloway’s 13-fight UFC winning streak in featherweight competition is the longest active streak in the division.

Holloway’s 16 victories in UFC featherweight competition are the most in divisional history.

Holloway’s 1,937 significant strikes landed in UFC competition are most in company history.

Holloway became the first fighter in history to land 100 or more significant strikes in nine separate UFC fights.

Holloway’s total fight time of 4:07:00 in UFC featherweight competition is second most in divisional history behind Darren Elkins (4:09:04).

Edgar’s five losses in UFC championship fights are most in company history.

Edgar fell to 8-4 since he dropped to the UFC featherweight division in February 2013.

Edgar’s 1,573 significant strikes landed in UFC competition are second most in company history behind Holloway (1,937).

Edgar’s 68 takedowns landed in UFC competition are tied for fourth most in company history behind Georges St-Pierre (90), Gleison Tibau (84) and Demetrious Johnson (74).

Edgar’s total fight time of 7:12:33 in UFC competition is the most in company history.

Edgar has suffered six of his seven career losses by decision.

Cris Cyborg (21-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC) four victories in UFC women’s featherweight competition are most in divisional history.

Cyborg has outlanded her seven UFC opponents 460-148 in significant strikes.

Felicia Spencer (7-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) had her seven-fight winning streak snapped for the first defeat of her career.

Niko Price (13-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) has suffered all three of his career losses by stoppage.

Olivier Aubin-Mercier’s (11-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC) three-fight losing skid is the longest of his career. He hasn’t earned a victory since April 2018

Aubin-Mercier has suffered all five of his career losses by decision.

Krzysztof Jotko (21-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) has earned seven of his eight UFC victories by decision.

Marc-Andre Barriault (11-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) suffered consecutive losses for the first time in his career. He hasn’t earned a victory since September.

Barriault has suffered all three of his career losses by decision.

Preliminary card

Viviane Araujo (8-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) earned the first decision victory of her career.

Alexis Davis’ (19-10 MMA, 7-4 UFC) three-fight losing skid is the longest of her career. She hasn’t earned a victory since December 2017.

Davis fell to 1-3 since she dropped to the UFC flyweight division in December 2017.

Yoshinori Horie (8-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has suffered both of his career losses by knockout.

Gavin Tucker (11-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) has earned nine of his 11 career victories by stoppage.

Seungwoo Choi (7-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) suffered the first submission loss of his career.

Pantoja (21-4 MMA, 5-2 UFC) has suffered all four of his career losses by decision.

Gillian Robertson’s (7-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) four victories in UFC women’s flyweight competition are most in divisional history.

Robertson’s four stoppage victories in UFC women’s flyweight competition are most in divisional history.

Robertson earned the first knockout victory of her career.

Sarah Frota (9-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) has suffered consecutive losses after starting her career 9-0.

Frota was unsuccessful in her UFC women’s flyweight debut.

Frota suffered the first knockout loss of her career.

Erik Koch (15-6 MMA, 5-5 UFC) was successful in his UFC welterweight debut.

Koch snapped his two-fight losing skid and earned his first victory since May 2016.

Koch earned his first decision victory since Sept. 17, 2011 – a span of 2,870 days (nearly eight years) and eight fights.

Kyle Stewart (11-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) has suffered two of his three career losses by decision.
