UFC 244 post-event facts: Derrick Lewis already among winningest heavyweights ever

The UFC hosted one of its biggest events of the year on Saturday with UFC 244, which took place at Madison Square Garden in New York with a main card that aired on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN2 and ESPN+/UFC Fight Pass.

Jorge Masvidal (35-13 MMA, 11-6 UFC) was crowned the “BMF” champion in the welterweight main event when he scored a TKO victory over Nate Diaz (20-12 MMA, 15-10 UFC) after the cageside doctor waved off the fight following the third round due to cuts on Diaz’s face.

It was a somewhat underwhelming way to end an epic event, which produced many notable results. For more on the numbers, check below for 45 post-event facts to come out of UFC 244.

General

The UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout for the event totaled $210,500.

Stephen Thompson, Vicente Luque, Kevin Lee and Corey Anderson earned $50,000 UFC 244 fight-night bonuses.

UFC 244 drew an announced attendance of 20,143 for a live gate of $6,575,996.19.

Betting favorites went 8-4 on the card.

Betting favorites improved to 18-17 (one fight had even odds, one ended in a no contest) in UFC headliners this year.

Total fight time for the 12-bout card was 2:04:25.

Main card

Masvidal improved to 7-4 since he returned to the welterweight division is July 2015.

Masvidal has earned all six of his UFC welterweight stoppage victories via strikes.

Diaz fell to 7-6 in his past 13 UFC appearances dating back to January 2011.

Diaz fell to 4-4 in UFC welterweight competition.

Darren Till (18-2-1 MMA, 6-2-1 UFC) was successful in his middleweight debut.

Kelvin Gastelum (15-5 MMA, 10-5 UFC) fell to 4-3 (with one no contest) since he moved up to the UFC middleweight division in December 2016. He’s 5-3 (with one no contest) in the organization at 185 pounds.

Gastelum has suffered four of his five career losses by split decision.

Stephen Thompson (15-4-1 MMA, 10-4-1 UFC) improved to 2-3-1 in his past six fights dating back to November 2016.

Thompson landed 138 significant strikes, a new personal best for his UFC career.

Thompson’s 10 knockdowns landed in UFC welterweight competition are tied with Tyron Woodley for third most in divisional history behind Thiago Alves (13) and Jake Ellenberger (11).

Thompson’s four fight-night bonuses for UFC welterweight fights are tied fourth most in divisional history behind Chris Lytle (10), Carlos Condit (seven) and Erick Silva (seven).

Vicente Luque (17-7-1 MMA, 10-3 UFC) has suffered all three of his UFC losses by decision.

Derrick Lewis’ (22-7 MMA, 13-5 UFC) 13 victories in UFC heavyweight competition are tied for fourth most in divisional history behind Andrei Arlovski (17), Frank Mir (16) and Junior Dos Santos (15).

Blagoy Ivanov (18-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has suffered both of his UFC losses by decision.

Lee (18-5 MMA, 11-5 UFC) was successful in his return to the lightweight division.

Lee’s 11 victories since 2014 in UFC lightweight competition are tied with Tony Ferguson and Beneil Dariush for most in the division.

Gregor Gillespie (13-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) had his 13-fight winning streak snapped for the first defeat of his career.

Preliminary card

Anderson’s (13-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) four-fight UFC winning streak at light heavyweight is tied for the second longest active streak in the division behind Dominick Reyes (six).

Anderson’s 10 victories since 2014 in UFC light heavyweight competition are tied with Ovince Saint Preux for most in the division.

Anderson has earned all of his career stoppage victories by knockout.

Anderson’s 53 takedowns landed in UFC light-heavyweight competition are most in divisional history.

Johnny Walker (17-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC) has suffered all four of his career losses by stoppage.

Makwan Amirkhani (15-4 MMA, 5-2 UFC) suffered the first knockout loss of his career.

Edmen Shahbazyan’s (11-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) four-fight UFC winning streak at middleweight is the third longest active streak in the division behind Israel Adesanya (seven) and Paulo Costa (five).

Shahbazyan has earned 10 of his 11 career victories by stoppage.

Brad Tavares (17-6 MMA, 12-6 UFC) has suffered all three of his career stoppage losses by knockout.

Jair Rozenstruik’s (9-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) three-fight UFC winning streak at heavyweight is tied with Francis Ngannou and Augusto Sakai for the longest active streak in the division.

Rozenstruik has earned eight of his nine career victories by stoppage. That includes all three of his UFC wins.

Rozenstruik’s three-fight knockout streak in UFC competition is tied with six other fighters for the longest active streak in the company.

Andrei Arlovski (28-19 MMA, 17-13 UFC) fell to 3-9 (with one no contest) in his past 12 UFC appearances dating back to January 2016.

Arlovski fell to 7-9 (with one no contest) since he returned to the UFC for a second stint in June 2014.

Arlovski’s total fight time of 4:33:42 in UFC heavyweight competition is the most in divisional history.

Arlovski’s nine knockout losses in UFC/WEC/PRIDE/Strikeforce competition are second most in combined organizational history behind Alistair Overeem (11).

Katlyn Chookagian (13-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) improved to 4-1 since she dropped to the UFC flyweight division in January 2018.

Chookagian’s four victories in UFC women’s flyweight competition are tied with with Valentina Shevchenko, Joanne Calderwood and Gillian Robertson

Chookagian has earned 10 of her 13 career victories by decision. That includes all six of her UFC wins.

Jennifer Maia (17-6-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has suffered both of her UFC losses by decision.

Lyman Good (21-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC) has earned all three of his UFC victories by knockout.

Chance Rencountre (14-4 MMA, 2-2 UFC) suffered the first knockout loss of his career. His previous three defeats came by decision.

Hakeem Dawodu (11-1-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) has earned three of his four UFC victories by decision.

Julio Arce (16-4 MMA, 3-2 UFC) has suffered both of his UFC losses by decision.
