Wu Yanan vs. Gina Mazany

Round 1 – Mazany greets Yanan with a right hand as the two swing for the fences, and Yanan ties up as the two careen across the cage. Mazany pulls down on the head and tries to convert to a throw. Knees from the plumb partially blocked by Yanan, who’s fighting like heck to muscle her opponent. Collar tie and punch breaks up the clinch for Mazany, and Yanan is still all over her. Yanan tries to rough up Mazany in close. A cut is over Mazany’s left eye. Yanan grabs a leg and takes a few rabbit punches. Mazany pushes for a takedown and falls to the mat when she misses, allowing Yanan to sneak in a few punches before she can escape. And finally, they break. But not for long. They’re trading fast and loose. Mazany clinches up and fires off knees to the legs against the fence. Trip takedown fails. Yanan makes a position error and winds up on her back with Mazany in half-guard. Mazany working to pass and fires off an elbow. Mazany postures and fires off big shots. Yanan tries to escape and gets bowled over. Mazany all over her. In a flash, Yanan throws up an armbar, but it’s a sloppy attempt and easily intercepted. Still, she’s able to get back to her feet, at least briefly, before Mazany puts her back on the mat and starts pounding again. Yanan works for top position and presses Mazany to the fence when she rights herself. Knees to the midsection from Yanan close a frenzied opening round. Mazany gets it 10-9 for more quality offense.

Round 2 – Yanan plants a body kick and then takes a shin to the face as she charges forward. Mazany ties her up as she presses to the fence, transitioning to the plumb and dirty boxing. Yanan’s got a ton of heart, but her technique is a behind Mazany. Nonetheless, Yanan’s relentlessness is making Mazany breathe hard. Mazany goes over under and the two trade position against the cage. Mazany peels off and then puts Yanan on her butt with a takedown. Yanan doesn’t need much effort to get to her feet. Mazany drags her down, however, and traps her opponent against the fence, firing off short left hands. As Yanan works up, she takes punches and tries to prevent giving up her back. Mazany holding one wrist and punching with the other hand. Yanan finally powers her way up, and Mazany presses back to the fence. Trip attempt from Mazany, and Yanan is fighting it. With one minute to work, Yanan making Mazany work for everything. Knee to the midsection and warning for grabbing the cage from Goddard to Yanan. Finally, he stops the action after several warnings and walks Yanan to her cornerman to explain she’ll lose a point if she keeps grabbing the cage. Restart and Yanan takes a right hand as she charges in. They trade big shots as the frame ends, and Yanan walks back to her corner clutching her head in apparent pain. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Mazany, putting her up 20-18.

Round 3 – Yanan somehow back in the fight despite looking in bad shape. Mazany goes with a superman and the two clinch briefly. They’re trading with abandon and bouncing across the canvas. Yanan punches her way in, taking a shot or two, and pushes against the fence before resetting. Nice kicks to Mazany, who fires back in kind. Yanan charges in and is clinched by Mazany, who presses to the fence and lands a double-leg takedown with more than three minutes remaining in the round. Ground and pound starts for Mazany, who’s corner warns against an armbar. Warning for Yanan putting her toes in the cage. Mazany working with shots from overhead. Yanan tying up with mission control. Again, not great technique, but the newcomer never gives up. Ninety seconds to go, and Yanan throws up a triangle attempt. Mazany counters and lands a few big elbows to punish the attempt. Yanan scrambles and winds up in north south as Mazany smothers her. Small punches to the body from the American. Mazany shifts and lands elbows from the top to close out. Yanan throws up her legs for a possible submission, but she’s got nothing. Round ends, and Mazany takes the 10-9 for the 30-27 sweep on MMAjunkie’s scorecard.

Wuliji Buren vs. Rolando Dy

Round 1 – Buren leads with a jab and closes distance. Dy fires back a leg kick, but Buren is undeterred. Jump front kick from Dy, who clips Buren with a hook and briefly drops him to the mat after declining a follow to the mat. Buren seems OK, though a quick takedown attempt implies the damage done by Dy’s punch. Butterfly guard helps Dy get back to his feet after a brief trip to the mat, and Buren is at his back against the cage. Buren scoops him up from a back bear hug and all of a sudden is threatning back control. Dy scrambles and gets back to his feet, running headlong into the cage before pushing Buren back with a punch. Combination nets a nice left from Dy. Both fighters a little more tentative and flat-footed now that first blood has been drawn. Dy trying single kicks and punches, including that jumping front kick. Nice outside leg kick from Dy. Jabs and misses from both. Flying knee from Buren blocked, and his leg gets nailed with a kick. Dy pawing with jabs and looking for opportunities. Buren fires back and can’t find anything big, but pushes back Dy. With 30 seconds left, Dy looking for his power left. He shoots and briefly puts Buren’s butt on the canvas, but the round ends with both men standing. Dy takes the opening round, 10-9, on MMAjunkie’s scorecard.

Round 2 – Buren presses in early and misses on a straight right. Dy with that left hand counter again. Buren shoots in and redoubles his efforts after a scramble. Dy quickly reverses position, though, and lands in side mount. Buren holding the headlock before thinking better of it. Dy kneeing the body as Buren triangles an arm. Dean warns for action. Dy sneaks up Buren’s body into judo side control, prompting Buren to roll to his knees and then to his feet. Dy throwing big bombs into Buren’s guard, but Buren still closing. Lead elbow misses for Dy. A combination mostly blocked from Dy. Buren in pursuit and puts a left hook on Dy, who chases him back and glances with a kick. Feints from Buren as both fighters eye each other. Buren shoots and briefly puts Dy on his butt, but can’t keep it down. Outside leg kick lands for Dy. The two seem content to throw potshots at each other, never throwing much in the way of combos. Dy is doing big damage with outside leg kicks, and not much else in this round. Buren misses on a counter, as does Dy. Time runs out in something of a stalemate, but Dy again takes the frame 10-9 for superior work, putting him up 20-18.

Round 3 – Buren needs to make something happen here. Dy slaps him with a jab, and another, and fights off a single-leg. Buren elevates and finally gets a decisive takedown, landing in half-guard. Not much work yet up top from Buren. Dy doing his best to stymie efforts. Buren thinks about an arm triangle and reconsiders. Buren stands and grabs the head as Dy gets up. Big overhand right for Buren as he simultaneously shoots for a single-leg. Buren can’t get it and winds up grasping at straws as Dy escapes. Halfway through the round. Overhand right lands for Dy, then a body kick. He pursues to pick up more points, and instead the action is stopped as one of his kicks goes south. Restart, and Dy hooks with a left. Back to the shot does Buren, who gets caught in a headlock and has to give up. Dy content to frustrate Buren’s attacks and fire back without much steam. Another single leg from Buren, who whips around to the back against the cage. He’s trying to lock the arms, but gets turned around and takes an elbow from Dy. Another desperation shot from Buren, who gets wrestled back to the fence before taking a shot on the break. Another elbow from Dy. Round ends in the clinch, and Buren gets his first round with a 10-9 score. It’s not enough to deny the 29-28 for Dy, however, on MMAjunkie’s scorecard.

Cyril Asker vs. Hu Yaozong

Round 1 – A touch of gloves, and Asker closes with a right hand before a shot and easy takedown. Yaozong, sitting against the cage, works on a switch and can’t get it. He turns and applies a whizzer as Asker chambers a knee before wrapping a leg and firing off left hands. After a scramble, Yaozong applies a guillotine choke, prompting screams from the crowd. Asker slips out and resets. He fires off a few straight punches before diving for the takedown, and again, he gets it. Yaozong is posted on his butt against the cage and fighting the hands. Asker hops on the back as Yaozong turns and tries a few right hands. Asker switches to the neck and Yaozong fights the hands. Softening up time for Asker. Yaozong turtling up. Right hands stinging the side of his head. Asker stands and plants a knee to the midsection. He tries a choke before putting Yaozong back on the mat. As Yaozong stands, he takes a high mount against the cage before slipping to the back again. Right hands to Yaozong’s dome. More shots, and Yaozong turns before thinking better of exposing his neck. With 20 seconds left, Asker back on Yaozong’s back, hammering away with right hands as round ends. Easy 10-9 for Asker on MMAjunkie’s scorecard.

Round 2 – Asker catches a right hand counter as the round starts, and Yaozong follows with outside leg kicks. He’s closing now as Asker circles off and then charges. Inside uppercut for Asker before the inevitable takedown and flimsy guillotine attempt from Yaozong. And we’re back in round two, with Yaozong sitting against the fence, taking shots to the head. Asker takes a high guard and thinks of a choke before settling to the back, and there are the punches again. Yaozong has to decide whether to give up full back control or take punishment with one of Asker’s in. He adjusts enough to where Asker can get back control, and he’s in trouble. Asker pounding away and gets Yaozong to give up his back. With a little maneuvering, Asker gets the tap.
