UFC Fight Night 135 play-by-play and live results

LINCOLN, Neb. – MMAjunkie is on scene and reporting live from today’s UFC Fight Night 135 event, and you can join us for live play-by-play and official results beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET (3:30 p.m. PT).

The event takes place at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb. The main card airs on FS1 following prelims on FS2 and UFC Fight Pass.

In the main event, former WSOF lightweight champion Justin Gaethje (18-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) takes on James Vick (13-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC). In the co-feature, Andre Fili (18-5 MMA, 6-4 UFC) meets Michael Johnson (17-13 MMA, 9-9 UFC) at featherweight.

Current Fight

John Moraga vs. Deiveson Figueiredo

Round 1 – Moraga goes early to the leg of Figueiredo. Feints from both, and Moraga lands another leg kick. Both fighters wary of each other, apparently. Figueiredo closing in, but Moraga quick with lateral movement. A hit and run shot from Moraga prompts a counter charge, and Moraga lands a right in the next exchange. A clinch goes to the advantage of Figueiredo, who reverses on the way down and winds up in butterfly guard ot Moraga. Pass attempt from Figueiredo, and Moraga works to stand up. Moraga warned for toes in the fence twice. Figueiredo not doing much from top, and Moraga tries an armbar. He rolls over on the miss, and Figueiredo flings down a few punches as Moraga traps an ankle. Less than one minute to go. Punches from up top from Figueiredo, who drops for an ankle lock. Moraga’s attempt prompts Figueiredo to scramble to Moraga’s back and fire off a few hard punches to the side of the head. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Figueiredo.

Results

Eryk Anders vs. Tim Williams

Round 1 – Anders slowly closes in and draws a body kick from Williams. Still stalking, Anders takes a shot to the head going straight to the body. Williams attacks the leg and resets. Williams goes high with a kick and sends Anders moving backward. Anders is OK and resumes his slow press. Williams trying to break up the rhythm with feints and circling. So ar, Anders hasn’t really committed to much. Another Williams high kick blocked. Collision leads to clinch, and Williams presses Anders to the fence. Knee to the legs, and Anders pushes off. Nice counter left from Williams off Anders punch, and he presses against the fence. Anders pushes off and misses on the return. Anders is waiting for the right moment, and a kick provides it. He comes in hot, but Williams’ counters again frustrate him. Williams doesn’t won’t stay still. Anders takes a body shot and resets. Solid one-two counter from Williams, and Anders closes. Body kick provides takedown opportunity. Anders tries a guillotine and winds up slammed to the mat. Williams takes the back as Anders tries to get up. Shots from Williams end the first frame, and he scores the 10-9 round.

Round 2 – Anders presses in again and they clinch as Williams ducks. Williams ducks under a charge and fires back with a nice counter. Anders still pressing, but he’s gettting outclassed in close. High kick blocked from Williams. Spin attack no good. Anders charges into the clinch and gets muscled to the fence. Williams ducks under and again slams Anders to the mat. As Anders gets up, Williams almost gets full back control. Anders turns and Williams backs off. Left straight catches Williams with a glance, and Anders charges forward with more heavy punches. Big head kick misses, but another left lands, and Williams is opened up. Anders turning up the heat and landing. Williams shoots for a takedown and is stuffed. Anders stands overhead for a few minutes before going to top position. He briefly gets mount, and Williams scrambles to his feet. Anders tags him again and goes for his own takedown. Settling for a clinch, a spin elbow misses, but Williams is clearly fading. Anders putting together combinations, landing his power punch. Williams tries to counter, and Anders is undeterred as he presses forward. A hard straight left cracks Williams in the last significant strike of the round. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Anders.

Round 3 – Anders inching in again. Williams’ face is busted up. Anders floors Williams with a counter left off a leg kick. Anders stands overhead and contemplates letting him up or going to top position. He decides on the former and continues looking for that kill shot. Williams tries the same inside leg kick that prompted the counter, but Anders doesn’t take the bait. A nice one-two lands for Williams, who again goes to the legs wihth kicks. Anders again with his straight left counter, but Williams replies with his own power punch. Another straight left from Anders. Williams level changes, and Anders has a crazy good sprawl followed by a head kick that just misses. Williams sticks his jab in Anders’ face and then goes to the power punch. They both fire off heavy straight shots and miss. Anders still pressing. A spinning backfist cracks Anders, who sends Williams staggering to the mat with a quick counter. As Williams gets up, Anders floors him with a head kick, and the fight is over in an instant.

James Krause vs. Warlley Alves

Round 1 – Krause fakes a takedown early and taks a body kick. Back forward , his high kick is intercepted, and Alves sets up for a guillotine. Krause flips him off with a kick, and they reset with a high five. Krause manages to push Alves to the fence, but he’s quickly turned around. They jockey for position and trade in close. Alves wings around to Krause’s back briefly after Krause changes levels. Knees in close as they wrestle for position. Double underhooks for Krause, and Alves adjusts. Elbow off the break for Krause, who closes in and attacks the body. Another high kick fake. Alves catches a kick attempt and throws Krause to the mat. Big axe kick, and Krause is forced to move and escape danger. Krause working more accurately in the pocket, and it looks like Alves is a little tired. Big body kicks from Alves. Krause in his face with jabs and front kicks. Alves using muscle over strategy, but Krause’s volume is giving him problems. Alves loading up big, while Krause is popping away with persistent, short punches. Big body kick from Alves, who shortly after pushes into the clinch with less than one minute to go. Krause turns him against the fence and takes a body kick off the break. Krause presses back in and front kicks to the face. His pressure is getting to Alves. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Krause as Alves misses on a flurry.

Round 2 – Alves swings big to start and fires off that body kick again. Krause goes back to the jab and narrowly avoid a big counter hook. Alves pushes Krause to the fence and goes head hunting. Krause wraps him up and smothers him against the fence. So far, a fight between a technician and a slugger. Alves is getting stuffed and taking short shots. Krause won’t let him go. Krause misses a trip and gets out before Alves can tag him. Back in, Krause goes back to the jab. Kicks push Alves back, and Krause trips him to the mat. Alves takes a lunging knee to the jaw, and Krause advances for the finish. Alves is getting lit up. He’s not going anywhere. Shot after shot lands, and referee MacDonald steps in to intervene before the damage mounts. Big win for Krause.

Cory Sandhagen vs. Iuri Alcantara

Round 1 – They trade leg kicks early. Alcantara counters a charge with a stiff punch that rocks Sandhagen. Off the fence, Alcantara jumps into armbar position and secures Sandhagen’s arm. Sandhagen rolls to his back and tries to escape, but Alcantara has his head triangled and is cranking on that arm. Hammerfists bloody Sandhagen’s face. Finally, Sandhagen frees his arm, and he’s in top position. He lets Alcantara have it with a flurry of punches, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Alcantara works butterfly guard as Sandhagen settles into top position. Sandhagen gets some distance and makes Alcantara pay with punches and elbows. Punch bounces Alcantara’s head off the canvas. He tries for a desperation sweep and instead takes a right hand. Alcantara goes for a leg and Sandhagen closes the distance for some more ground and pound. Alcantara turns to his side and Sandhagen smells blood. Dozens of punches, and somehow the ref hasn’t stepped it. Less than one minute to go, and Alcantara takes another huge shot. Sandhagen in quarter mount, pounding away. Alcantara turns to his side to escape danger. Mouthguard fell out several seconds ago. Sandhagen overhead as Alcantara turtles up and takes more punishment. Crazy round, and MMAjunkie scores it 10-8 for Sandhagen.

Round 2 – Sandhagen closes in and nails Alcantara with a shot that sends the Brazilian to the canvas. Alcantara is turtle up and taking unanswered shots, and still, the referee isn’t stepping in. Sandhagen just battering Alcantara. Finally, Sandhagen motions to the referee, who finally issues a verbal warning. When Alcantara obviously doesn’t improve his position, the ref finally does his job and stops the fight.

Andrew Sanchez vs. Markus Perez

Round 1 – Feints from both, and Perez goes high with a kick. A body kick on the follow-up is good. Sanchez inches in and pops a jab, then follows with a one-two that’s good. Perez nails the body twice with kicks. Sanchez’s stance opening up the body kick. Sanchez circles around and tries to find a way in. He eats a check right hook coming in. Sanchez closes and fakes his way into a clinch and single-leg attempt. Perez wraps an underhook and turns his body. He pummels and tries to escape, but Sanchez is pretty much smothering him. Referee warns for action, and Sanchez gets to the back as Perez turns. Perez scrambles and nearly gets to Sanchez’s back before being pressed back into the fence. Inside trip from Sanchez can’t put Perez down. Arm-lock from Perez distracts Sanchez from completing takedown. Spinning elbow prompts Sanchez to peel off, and Perez is on the offensive. A sloppy spinning elbow gives Sanchez an entry into the clinch against the fence. Ref doesn’t want to see another stall and puts in an early word. Sanchez gives up on the takedown, and Perez misses with a spinning kick to end the frame. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Sanchez.

Round 2 – Perez lets his hands go early, and Sanchez attacks the lead leg. Sanchez staying patient, and Perez lands a big left hand that pushes Sanchez back. He tries to follow up with kicks, but Sanchez eventually regains positioning. Big body kicks from Perez. Sanchez attacks to the body with straight punches and inches in. Another left hook from Perez. Sanchez comes back with more straight shots, but they don’t have the same heat on them. Perez pursues and and lands more nice body kicks. Perez a little loose again with his combinations, and Sanchez chases him back with a quick combination that opens a clinch against the fence. Perez pushes Sanchez off and fires a knee. Lead left elbow cracks Sanchez, but he’s still there. Basic, conventional attacks from Sanchez are working, but Perez’s power is scoring points. Sanchez again punches into the clinch and tries to tag Perez with a flurry. Perez counterattacks and pushes off his foe with a body kick. Sanchez back in with a combination, putting Perez against the fence again. Perez hinting at a throw. Sanchez keeps him smothered against the fence. Perez looks like he’s fading, and Sanchez works the body in close. Perez pulls guard in the final seconds of the round. He’s losing steam, and Sanchez takes the 10-9 score.

Round 3 – Sanchez presses in with combinations, again backing up Perez. Another wild reverse elbow from Perez, but Sanchez isn’t having it. Forward motion from Sanchez, who’s putting Perez on his heels. Big left from Perez gives Sanchez pause, but he comes back and puts together a solid combo. Perez goads Sanchez into a slugfest and starts walking down Sanchez. Spinning back elbow and body kick from Perez, but he gets too close and winds up in the clinch. This time, Perez is able to get free. A teep sends him to the mat, and Sanchez charges forward with another multi-punch combo. Perez is smothered against the fence, but he escapes and fires off a spinning elbow. Another body kick to a takedown attempt from Perez, and Sanchez stays clear and again gets busy with a combination. Clinch against the fence, and Sanchez gets to the back and tries to drag Perez to the mat. Knees to the body from both. Dog fight in close, but Sanchez looks like the fresher fighter. He hasn’t been as flashy, but his solid work has scored points and mimimized Perez’s flashy offense. Upon break from referee, Perez leaps and misses with a kick. Final trade of punches, and Sanchez gets fancy finally with a question-mark kick and backfists. Perez comes charging one last time and can’t hurt Sanchez enough to turn the tables. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 Sanchez, who should get the 30-27 score.

Mickey Gall vs. George Sullivan

Round 1 – Sullivan advances early and draws a high kick from Gall. Gall pushes back and ducks under for a takedown. Sullivan turns as he tries to get up, giving Gall a perfect entry to back control – that didn’t take long. Head warpped, and Sullivan working to fight hands. As Sullivan punches back, Gall adjusts his arms and sinks them under the chin. Tap or go to sleep for Sullivan, who chooses the former. Easy money for Gall.

Joanne Calderwood vs. Kalindra Faria

Round 1 – Early kick battle, and Faria closes in, clinching up and taking Calderwood to the mat. Passing to side control, Faria turns Calderwood and nearly loses position when Calderwood uses butterfly guard to trip her up. Standing overhead, Faria stacks Calderwood and comes down with a big punch. She quickly works to mount and then wraps the head when Calderwood sits up. In half-guard, Faria bides her time briefly, and Calderwood recovers full guard. Elbows from the bottom from Calderwood. Faria postures up and then comes down with another big punch. Calderwood still elbowing the head as Faria works ground and pound. Calderwood inches up her guard briefly and then tries to keep Faria from doing too much damage. Faria stands again and tries to get around the legs, coming back down with punches. When that doesn’t work, Faria goes back to ground and pound. Calderwood again with high guard. Faria misses the triangle setup and Calderwood all of a sudden has the position. Armbar to accompany it. Calderwood pulls the head as Faria tries to survive. Calderwood adjusts with another armbar and Faria is forced to tap as she’s thrust forward onto her head. Great come from behind win for Calderwood.

Drew Dober vs. Jon Tuck

Round 1 – Tuck goes high after Dober pops him with a counter. Nice body kick from Dober, and Tuck tries to fire back. Dober again with the body kick, and Tuck resets. Tuck takes a leg kick trying to counter. Dober has an early lead in striking, but Tuck manages to push him back with a straight right. Tuck again good with his straight right, and Dober nails his lead leg. Counter of the same, and Dober lets his fists fly in close. Dober keeping a high work rate, and Tuck closes for the clinch. He wraps the head as Dober turns him against the fence, and Grice warns for finger grabbing. Dober out of trouble with two minutes and peels off with a big punch. Dober still in Tuck’s face and draws a counter that allows him to score. Tuck replies with a right as his foe gets close. Dober continues to press in, but Tuck’s right is still there. Thudding leg kick from Dober, who’s pressing the action again. Tuck lunges with knees to the body, prompting hook counters from Dober. One last leg kick from Dober ends round one, and Tuck gets the first round 10-9 for more quality punches landed.

Round 2 – Dober celebrating before the round begins. He’s fired up. Tuck already swinging on the counter, and Dober pops him with a punch, pushing in to double up. Another leg kick from Dober, and Tuck replies to the body with his own kick. Dober trying to corner Tuck. Dober lands in close on the next exchange and tries to end with a high kick. Tuck has more success with his own attempt, and the two trade in close, landing to each other’s chins. Tuck grabs a leg to initiate a takedown, and he doesn’t have it. Dober back in his face, initiating punching exchanges. But that’s a fake for a takedown attempt, which Dober gets easily. Tuck replies with a guillotine attempt, briefly stalling Dober’s advance. Against the cage, he thwacks at Tuck’s head with punches and works to pass. Midway through the round, Dober is still coming on strong as Tuck tries to stand. Dober appears to be cut as he works ground and pound. Tuck sits against the cage and gets pushed to his back. Dober preventing Tuck from wall walking. Punches force Tuck to wrap full guard. Big elbows from Dober, then punches to close out the round. Clear 10-9 for Dober, and it’s even at 19-19.

Round 3 – They trade straight power shots to open, and Dober’s left pushes Tuck back. Trade of body kicks, and Dober presses back in. Again, Dober works to draw the counter and fire back in colume. Tuck takes a trio of left hands, and Dober nails another takedown, easily popping out of a guillotine setup. Tuck is fading, and there’s plenty of time left. Elbows from half-guard from Dober. Tuck is just hanging on; knots are developing on his forehead. Dober in quarter mount, and Tuck spins to maintain distance and recover guard. Dober doing work from top position, and here is where he’s going to end things. Punches and elbows from top position. Tuck sits up and wraps the head for one last-ditch effort. He gets to his knees and fires off a knee before time runs out. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Dober, who gets the 29-28 decision.

Rani Yahya vs. Luke Sanders

Round 1 – Yahya in early with leg kicks. Of course, he shoots a takedown next and pulls guard, but Sanders isn’t having it. Sanders inches in and tries to catch Yahya on the counter. Yahya wobbles him with a punch and doubles up for a takedown attempt. He drops back for a heel hook upon pulling guard, and Sanders is forced to scramble. Yahya keeps rolling and cranking, and eventually, Sanders is forced to submit. Fast work from the veteran submission artist.
