UFC Fight Night 142 play-by-play and live results

UFC Fight Night 142 takes place today, and you can join us for live play-by-play and official results beginning at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT).

The event takes place at Adelaide Entertainment Center in Adelaide, Australia. The card airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

In the main event, former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos (19-5 MMA, 13-4 UFC) takes on Australia’s own Tai Tuivasa (8-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC), who looks to remain unbeaten as a slight underdog to the Brazilian.

In the co-feature, former light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua (25-11 MMA, 9-9 UFC) takes on Tyson Pedro (7-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) Plus, Mark Hunt (13-13-1 MMA, 8-7-1 UFC) meets Justin Willis (7-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) in another heavyweight bout.

Current fight

Yushin Okami vs. Alexey Kunchenko

Round 1 – Kunchenko moves to the center and keeps his hands high, respecting the veteran he’s facing. Kunchenko kicks the legs and punches over the top. Another kick to the legs, and Okami jumps forward for a takedown. He’s short and has to wrap the body, but he can’t quite get hold. Kunchenko back to the center and looking to strike. He’s comfortable in the center and is staying busy, but he’s also careful not to allow Okami to move inside. Low kicks chopping at Okami’s legs. Kunchenko controlling the range but is patient in his work. Okami rushes forward and drives his opponent to the cage. Kunchenko comfortable as he defends and strikes at the body. Nice work inside to defend, and referee Neil Swailes brings them back to the center. More leg kicks from Kunchenko on the restart. They finish there, and MMAjunkie gives it to Kunchenko, 10-9.

Round 2 – Quicker engagement from Okami, who is now going to be desperate for the takedown. Kunchenko defends a few early shots well and is able to lace in some strikes while he defends. Once free, Kunchenko now picking up the pace a little, as well. His striking is smooth, and his sense of range is perfect. Okami is able to wrap the body, but he can’t get underhooks. Kunchenko with flawless defense, and he pulls free. For his part, Okami shoots in again with quickness. It’s also not there. Kunchenko’s sprawl is perfect. He’s also punching well in the spots he’s given. The process repeats until the bell. MMAjunkie gives it again to Kunchenko, 10-9.

Alex Gorgees vs. Damir Ismagulov

Round 1 – Ismagulov with his hands high, looking for a way past the reach of his longer opponent. He kicks at the legs and then drives forward with a big right hand before darting out of the way. Gorgees is a little more stationary in his approach. Ismagulov changes levels and shoots forward with an impressive quickness, getting underhooks and bringing the fight to the floor. Gorgees holds tight underneath, trying to tie things up. Ismagulov strikes, and Gorgees nearly slips around to the back in a slick sweep. Ismagulov adjusts to stay safe, but it allows Gorgees to rise. Still, Ismagulov keeping the pressure high and pressing his opponent to the fence. Gorgees defends well, and Ismagulov finally breaks away and moves back to the center. They trade a few punches before the bell, and MMAjunkie gives it to Ismagulov, 10-9.

Round 2 – Gorgees asks the crowd for some noise prior to the start of the frame, and they respond. Gorgees moves out quickly, but it’s Ismagulov who sneaks in the first right hand. Ismagulov is very quick darting in and out of range. Ismagulov kicks to the body, and Gorgees halts to complain it was low. Ismagulov keeps fighting and drives forward with another takedown. Half-guard from Gorgees, and he’s seemingly mocking his opponent with a bored look, but Ismagulov is staying busy enough to keep the position. Short punches and elbows come forward when possible. Gorgees seems to be shrugging underneath and passing off his opponent’s attacks, protesting with raised arms, but Ismagulov is unimpressed and just going about his business. Ismagulov finally backs away in the final minute, but he dives right back in with a clean punch. Gorgees again in half-guard. Gorgees talking trash on his back, but he’s not scoring any points. Round ends there, and MMAjunkie gives it to Ismagulov, 10-9.

Round 3 – Ismagulov opens up with some slick striking and spinning attacks, and Gorgees postures with a few mocking ninja techniques of his own. Ismagulov smiles before driving forward with a successful takedown. Gorgees battles back up, but Ismagulov is relentless and keeps the pressure tight. Gorgees defends well, but as soon as they break apart and look to strike, Ismagulov just changes levels and easily takes the fight back to the floor. Gorgees again in half-guard, but this has not proven a very good position for him. Ismagulov just absolutely controlling from the top. He’s not landing concussive blows from the top, but he is staying busy and racking up points. Gorgees slapping his opponent from his back. He again is protesting and seemingly looking for the referee to intervene, but the action carries on, and time is wasting away. Ismagulov with a few elbows from the top. He backs away, and with 30 seconds left, referee Neil Swailes does give Gorgees an uncontested restart. Ismagulov inside quickly, and the bell sounds. MMAjunkie gives the final round to Ismagulov, 10-9, awarding him the fight 30-27.

Mizuto Hirota vs. Christos Giagos

Round 1 – Hirota sets up in the center. Giagos moves well on the outside and leaps forward with a big punch that misses, and he stumbles a bit. Giagos recovers and is still looking to strike. Giagos seems the quicker man, and he jumps forward with a big right hand that lands clean. Hirota does well to survive a big barrage of punches. Still, Giagos is incredibly aggressive and gets inside for the takedown. Hirota seems to have recovered well, and he battles from his back, eventually getting enough room to stand. Giagos pushes inside, and Hirota grabs the neck and tries for the guillotine. He’s got full guard, and Giagos is in a little trouble, though he does battle to pop his head free. Giagos now happy to work from top position. Hirota with a slick little attack on the leg, but Giagos able to spin free and retrieve the limb. Round ends shortly after, and MMAjunkie gives it to Giagos, 10-9.

Round 2 – Hirota seems to be fine after taking a few big strikes in the first. He’s a little more lively to start, but it’s Giagos who drops down and drives forward, bringing the fight again to the floor. Giagos quickly into top position and looking to strike. Hirota working guard underneath and looking for options. He does scoot to the fence and gets to a knee and then his feet. However, Giagos is right there to clinch the body and again toss his opponent to the floor. Full guard for Hirota. He’s working well in defense, but he’s not finding many options to attack. Giagos is keeping the pressure high with his positioning and his strikes. Hirota turns to his knees, and Giagos tries to take the back. Hirota works free and to his feet, and he throws some big punches and knees to close. MMAjunkie gives the round to Giagos, 10-9.

Round 3 – Hirota knows he needs to make something happen. Giagos does look to be tiring just a bit. Still, Giagos gets inside and powers through a takedown. However, an alert Hirota rolls through the effort and gets top position. Critical reversal there, but Giagos answers with his own sweep. Tense moments as they try to get control. Hirota battles to his feet, but Giagos inside immediately and gets another takedown. Hirota refuses to be planted on his back, and he quickly crawls to his feet. Giagos keeping the pressure tight. It’s a gut check for both men. Hirota frustrated with the lack of space to work, but Giagos is relentless and working to close this out. Hirota with a late reversal. He’s on top and punching and looking for the back. It’s a courageous late salvo, but it’s too little, too late. MMAjunkie gives it to Giagos, 10-9, awarding him the fight 30-27. Great effort from both men.

Elias Garcia vs. Kai Kara France

Round 1 – Garcia deep on a single at the start, and he has to drop to his back to finish it, but he does get inside on Kara-France. Garcia attacking the leg, but Kara-France is able to spin through and pull free, and now he’s in top position. Garcia with a closed guard underneath. He gets the legs high on the shoulders, but Kara-France is able to posture up and shake free, and they return to the feet. Kara-France looks comfortable on the feet, throwing punches at all angles. A big Garcia left comes in return and drops his foe. Kara-France pops right back to his feet, and we’re brawling. They scramble to the floor, and Garcia winds up on bottom but wraps a body triangle. He breaks it and looks for options, but Kara-France feels safe and starts punching away. He’s landing, and Garcia has to turn. Kara-France happily takes the back. Both hooks are in, and Kara-France is hunting the choke. Garcia turns and escapes well, but Kara-France is wailing away with punches until the bell. Fun round. MMAjunkie likes the late work from Kara-France, 10-9.

Round 2 – Quick start from both men. Kara-France’s nose is still bloodied from the punch that dropped him in the first. Still, Kara-France looking slick on the feet and find the mark with his punches. Kara-France winds up in top position as they hit the floor. Garcia immediately locks in a triangle. It looks deep. Kara-France stands, and Garcia is inverted but won’t let go. He turns to an armbar, and the limb is extended, but Kara-France battles through it, grimacing until he pulls free, and now he’s on top and looking to strike. What an incredible fight. Kara-France now banging away from top position. Garcia on his back and trying to avoid taking any more damage. His corner begging him to work. Garcia does attack the leg, but Kara-France pulls free and continues attacking with punches from the top. Garcia is trapped. His corner continues to yell for him to move as Kara-France is punching away. Garcia grabs a a leg and looks for a takedown, but it’s just not there. Garcia surviving, but that’s about it. He makes it to the bell. MMAjunkie gives it to Kara-France, 10-8.

Round 3 – It’s been a fun fight, but Garcia looks very tired at this point. Kara-France still quick and loose on the feet. Garcia throws a haymaker and changes levels, getting on a single-leg and taking the action down. Kara-France easily switches out and stands, and we reset on the feet. Kara-France chopping at the leg. He lands a crisp combination of punches. Kara-France looks incredible right now, picking Garcia apart on the feet. Right hand lands clean. Another drops Garcia. Quick recovery on the floor, and Garcia tries to grab the leg, but it’s not there. Kara-France just pulls free and backs away. Garcia gutsy, but he’s getting crushed on the feet. He dives for a leg, understandably, but it’s not there. Kara-France punching away from the top. Garcia exposes his back, and Kara-France hops on board. Hooks are in, but Garcia isn’t going away easy. He turns inside and actually is able to escape and take the top. Kara-France scrambles up, and he reverses position with relative ease. More punches from the top, and Kara-France backs away to celebrate at the bell. Great work. MMAjunkie gives the final round to Kara-France, 10-8, awarding him the fight 30-25.

Keita Nakamura vs. Salim Touahri

Round 1 – Nakamura in the center to start, and Touahri circles left on the outside. Both men patiently picking their shots, not exposing themselves to dangerous counters, as both are throwing hard to start. Touahri showing good movement so far. He’s in and out with punches. Nakamura content to trade right now, seemingly looking for counters. Both men remaining patient in the moderately paced action. Crowd getting a little restless. Nakamura does finally change levels and grab the body, but Touahri pushes him away. Left hook for Touahri, followed by a knee. Touahri doing a great job of keeping space, not allowing Nakamura to grapple. Round ends on the feet, and MMAjunkie gives it to Touahri, 10-9.

Round 2 – Nakamura quicker to engage at the start of the second. Still, Touahri seems to have the bigger blows right now. Nakamura does counter well, and Touahri briefly drops to a knee. Nakamura tries to push forward with a big elbow, but Touahri is able to recover and clinch. Nakamura lands an elbow inside, and they break apart. Nakamura now being a little more aggressive. He’s finding some success with his hands. He kicks the body, as well. Nakamura pushing forward. He seems to have the distance measured now. Touahri firing back but coming up short. Right hand lands for Nakamura. Touahri still looks dangerous, but his volume has dropped a bit. Touahri does land a nice counter left. Both men finding the mark late. Still a cautious pace as they pick their shots. MMAjunkie gives the second to Nakamura, 10-9.

Round 3 – Reis now picking up the pace a little and getting to the center. The fight could hang in the balance. Crowd trying to will these men to pick up the pace. Nakamura with a strong counter right. He drops levels but can’t get the fight to the floor. Nakamura holding the center and keeping the proper distance, forcing his opponent to miss more often than not. Nakamura kicks the leg. Nakamura respecting his opponent’s power but doing his best to score points while avoiding the big return. It’s methodical work. Crowd restless. Reis with a nice right to the body in the closing seconds. Fight ends on the feet. MMAjunkie gives the final round to Nakamura, 10-9, awarding him the fight 29-28.

Wilson Reis vs. Ben Nguyen

Round 1 – Both fighters moving well, looking for angles at the start. Reis in the center of the cage, and he latches on to an early Nguyen kick, backing his opponent to the cage. Reis controlling well against the fence and is able to drag Nguyen to a seated position. Reis trying to trap the legs but can’t quite get control. Nguyen steps up to his feet, but Reis not giving him much room to breathe. Nguyen doing all the right things in defense, and he’s able to circle off and pull back to the center. Reis moving well, not giving a stationary target to his opponent. Nguyen matching the angles well and looking for options. He’s smooth on the feet. Reis pushes inside again and gets another takedown. Nguyen rises, and again he has to try and use the fence to prevent Reis from taking his back. Grueling work in the clinch. They battle for position, and Reis does get Nguyen back to the floor, where they finish. MMAjunkie gives it to Reis, 10-9.

Round 2 – Nguyen wants to strike, of course, but Reis is inside quickly and trying to move to the back. Nguyen again very sound in his defense, doing all the right things to get free. But when he does, Nguyen isn’t really able to capitalize on the feet. Reis is moving very well and not allowing himself to be an easy target, and then he’s inside quickly. Reis’ power hooks are coming forward, though Nguyen does sneak in a nice counter. Nguyen just not getting any time to put together sustained attacks on the feet. Reis’ pressure is paying dividends. One minute left, and Reis is in tight on the legs, pulling them out from underneath his opponent. Nguyen again battles back to his feet without exposing his back. High-level stuff all around. Frame ends on the feet, and MMAjunkie gives it to Reis, 10-9.

Round 3 – It’s a familiar feel to start the third. Nguyen is on the outside and forced to concern himself with the takedowns of Reis. Meanwhile, Reis’ non-stop movement is making it tough to find him. Nguyen is a great striker, but he just doesn’t have the time to work combinations. Reis drives forward and is able to get the takedown. Nguyen’s mouth is busted up and bleeding, but he’s in a seated position and looks up and shrugs, hoping to get a referee intervention. It’s not coming, so Nguyen has to again crawl his way back to the feet. One minute remaining, and Reis’ pace has been just absolutely relentless. Nguyen doing whatever he can, but it just doesn’t seem to have any effect on his opponent. MMAjunkie gives the final round to Reis, 10-9, and awards him the fight 30-27.
