Make it five in a row for Marcin Tyrbura, who continues his tear through the heavyweight division.
The heavyweight contender picked up a big win over Walt Harris on Saturday evening in the co-main event of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 189 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Tybura (22-6, 9-5 UFC) finished Harris (13-10 MMA, 6-8 UFC) in the first round after facing early adversity.
The heavyweight bout was the UFC Fight Night 189 co-main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It streamed on ESPN+.
Early in the first round, Harris landed a spinning back fist after a missed head kick that hurt Tybura. From that moment, the onslaught of punches was on from Harris who looked for a finish, although it wouldn’t come thanks to Tybura’s composure.
After weathering the early storm, Tybura was able to secure a takedown to slow down the action, where he would begin to take over. He would rain down a series of unanswered punches while on Harris’ back until the referee called a stop to the action in the first round.

The Polish heavyweight was very busy in 2020, racking up four wins in the calendar year, including a Performance of the Night victory over former NFL superstar Greg Hardy in his previous outing. Despite taking some time off, the winning results continued in his first fight of 2021.
He was originally scheduled to face Blagoy Ivanov in March at UFC 260, but the shift to a new date and higher-ranked opponent worked out well for Tybura, who will likely get a big-name opponent after this co-main victory.
Harris has now dropped three in a row. Dealing with tragedy outside of competition has admittedly affected his recent performances inside the cage, but he was ready to prove that he is still one of the best heavyweights in the world. Unfortunately, he was unable to get back on the winning track on Saturday evening and he is now on the longest losing stretch of his career.
