Former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier (25-6 MMA, 17-5 UFC) meets Dan Hooker (20-8 MMA, 10-4 UFC) in the main event. In the co-feature, Mickey Gall (6-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) takes on Mike Perry (13-6 MMA, 6-6 UFC) at welterweight.

Jordan Griffin vs. Youssef Zalal

Round 1 – A touch of gloves and we’re underway on this 10-fight journey through UFC on ESPN 12. Zalal targeting the leg with some kicks early. Griffin, who has made weight twice in two weeks leading up to this fight, is calm and collected. He dives for Zalal’s legs. Zalal defends the takedown and Griffin now has his back, standing against the cage. Eventually, they separate. Griffin finishes off a combination with a nice high kick. Zalal answers with a combination followed by a jumping knee. Now it’s Zalal pushing Griffin against the fence. Zalal is straining, but can’t get Griffin down. Griffin reverses and takes Zalal down. He briefly hops on Zalal’s back, but the horn sounds. 10-9 Griffin.

Round 2 – Early, Zalal is throwing the jumping knee over and over. He’s much more aggressive here in the second. He lands a body shot on Griffin, who is visibly hurt by the blow. Griffin shoots for a takedown, seemingly out of desperation. Zalal lands a series of hammer-fists to the side of Griffin’s head. Griffin keeps fighting for the takedown and completes it. Zalal scrambles up and Griffin hops onto his back – the backpack position. Zalal eventually works Griffin off his back, but Griffin gets him to the mat again. Zalal scrambles and reverses Griffin. The two fighters rise to their feet. Zalal is pushing Griffin against the fence, seeking a single-leg takedown. Griffin reverses and the round ends. 19-19.

Round 3 – Zalal lands a head kick followed by a punching combination – another strong start. A series of hard punches lands for Zalal. Griffin eats another jumping knee and a series of follow-up punches. Griffin is clearly tired and shoots for a takedown, which he gets. Griffin is in side control. Zalal is trying to push off the cage using his feet. The two fights strain to gain an advantageous position. Griffin is in Zalal’s guard. Both fighters get off the mat. Zalal backs Griffin up against the cage and lands another combination. Griffin answers. Griffin lands a head kick and shoots for a double leg. Griffin hasn’t gotten the takedown yet, despite having his hands locked. He’s pushing Zalal against the fence. Griffin can’t get Zalal down and the fight returns to the center. Zalal lands a hard knee to the chest of Griffin, who shoots again. Zalal reverses position and is pressing Griffin against the fence. Griffin pushes Zalal off and eats a knee and an elbow. 29-28 Zalal.

Jinh Yu Frey vs. Kay Hansen

Round 1 – Alright, we’re off. There’s a 16-year age difference between these two. Hansen, despite her youth, looks comfortable. The two fighters tie up and Frey lands a series of strikes to Hansen’s head. A good start for the elder of the two. Hansen scrambles out. Now back in the center, there’s a feeling-out process going on. Frey lands a leg kick followed by a punch. Frey counters Hansen with a left. Hansen looks like that one bothered her – not that she was rocked or anything, but the punch hit her square in the eye. Hansen clinches Frey and tries a throw. Frey remains on her feet and Hansen pushes her against the cage. Frey grabs control of Hansen’s neck in the clinch and fires a head kick. Hansen eats it. Frey lands. Hansen counters. Frey whiffs on a combination. Hansen makes her pay, countering with a hard left jab. Frey lands a leg kick. Hansen lands a right hand. The horn sounds. 10-9 Frey.

Round 2 – Frey goes back to the well – targeting Hansen’s leg early with kicks. Rotating around Hansen, Frey is staying just outside of range. Both fighters throw. Hansen grabs hold of Frey and secures a takedown. Hansen is in Frey’s half guard. Hansen is heavy on top but is struggling to move out of half guard. Eventually, she sneaks her leg out into side control. Moments later, Frey moves back in half guard. With 10 seconds left, Hansen scrambles for a choke. Frey flies to her feet. Hansen takes her down again and the round ends. It’s all tied up entering the third round. 19-19.

Round 3 – It’s anyone’s fight – a pretty clear tie here. Frey lands a leg kick. Hansen lands a one-two combination. Moments later, Frey blasts Hansen with a straight right. Frey kicks the inside of Hansen’s thigh – over and over. Hansen charges in and Frey stuffs her. Hansen is off-balance, though. Hansen is relentless and doesn’t give up. Hansen hip tosses Frey and slips into an armbar attempt. Hansen, who is leaking from her head, transitions to a triangle – and then back to an armbar. This looks as good as finished. Frey is grimacing. There’s the tap. Hansen wins her UFC debut – at age 20. Impressive.

Tanner Boser vs. Philipe Lins

Round 1 – Boser is the first to land. He does so with back-to-back leg kicks. That looks like his gameplan early: target the Brazilian’s leg. Lins lands a body shot – and another. An overhand right lands an overhand right. Boser lands a hard combination. Lins is stunned. Boser pounces and annihilates Lins, who topples to the mat. A backhand hammerfist connects as Lins is laying on the mat. Herb Dean tackles Boser and saves Lins from further damage. Holy smokes. What a knockout.

Luis Pena vs. Khama Worthy

Round 1 – Worthy opens with a leg kick. Pena throws a push kick. Worthy responds with another kick – and another. It’s kick-for-kick thus far. Pena lands an outside leg kick. Worthy throws a hard combination. A right-hand lands for Worthy. Pena is stepping in and out of the pocket, utilizing his length. Worthy connects with another overhand right, then pops Pena’s body. Worthy charges in with a combination. Pena ducks out of the way and shoots for a takedown. Worthy throws a combination, which misses. He’s having fun out there, offering Pena a smile and a high-five. A body kick lands for Worthy, which was a borderline cup shot. A right-hand misses for Worthy, but he follows it up with a hard leg kick. Worthy punches Pena in the midsection. A leaping combination lands for Worthy. He’s consistently charged at Pena with very little defense. Thus far, its worked. The horn sounds. 10-9 Worthy.

Round 2 – After a brief feeling-out process, Pena gets a takedown. He’s already in side control. Pena looks toward his corner for advice. Apparently, he received some good advice because he hops right into mount. Pena works for an arm triangle but gives it up. After raining down ground-and-pound, Pena switches to the back and is seeking a rear-naked choke. Worthy defends and Pena is back into the back mount position. Once again, Pena pulls Worthy backward toward the mat. Pena lands a pair of elbows. Worthy complains to referee Mark Smith, saying Pena hit him in the back of the head. Smith tells him to fight on. Pena has the body triangle locked in. There’s two minutes left in the round. Pena is isolating Worthy’s left arm. Worthy punches backward, hitting the face of Pena. The strikes jumpstart a successful reversal. Worthy is now on top, in Pena’s guard. Pena tries for an omoplata, which he uses to scramble to his feet. The fighters are only up for a brief moment. Pena shoots and gets another takedown. In side control, Pena threatens a Von Flue choke. Worthy reverses and ends up on top. The round ends. 19-19.

Round 3 – Pena shoots for a takedown. No dice. Worthy taunts and lands a combination. Pena answers. Worthy connects on a body punch. Pena cracks a body kick to Worthy’s midsection. The striking action is picking up here in the third. The two fighters exchange. Both men are trading. This is getting fun. Pena charges in and shoots for a takedown. Worthy lands a pair of elbows. Pena is still fighting for the takedown. Worthy snatches his neck. This is a deep guillotine choke. There’s the tap. Worthy submits Pena.

Julian Erosa vs. Sean Woodson

Round 1 – Two of the lengthiest featherweights in UFC history are facing off. Woodson comes out with all sorts of whacky hand movements. He cracks Erosa with a one-two combination. Woodson fakes a flying knee and lands a combination. Another one-two combination cracks Erosa cleanly. Erosa is trying to fend off Woodson’s aggressive attack with leg kicks. Woodson responds with a leg kick of his own. A straight left-hand lands for Woodson, who sticks Erosa again and again. Woodson’s boxing is so clean. His punches are hidden behind other punches. Erosa lands a combination followed by a knee. A spinning backfist from Erosa is blocked by Woodson, who cracks Erosa with another left. The round ends after Erosa slips. 10-9 Woodson.

Round 2 – Woodson throws a combination, which Erosa dodges. Erosa lands a leg kick. Erosa clinches Woodson. On the break, Erosa lands an elbow and a punch. This is the best offensive he’s mustered up this fight. Erosa lands another combination, stalking Woodson around the cage. Erosa lands a three-strike combination – with a knee and punch digging the body. A jab lands for Woodson, who has noticeably slowed. Woodson lands two more punches. Erosa walks forward and lands a kick. The kick is low but Woodson says he’s alright. Erosa lands another combination. He’s slowly taking over this fight. A left-hand lands for Erosa, who’s cardio looks phenomenal. He took this fight on Wednesday and he’s looking like the fresher fighter. Woodson still has gas in the tank, throwing counters galore. Erosa loves these body punches – and for good reason. They’re working. Erosa whiffs on a punch and eats a hard left-hand from Woodson. The round ends. Wow, that was a lot of action. 19-19.

Round 3 – Both fighters come out with leg kicks. Erosa ties up Woodson but only briefly. The two fighters separate and Erosa charges in. Woodson catches Erosa, who is floored. Woodson pounces, but Erosa explodes back to his feet. Chasing Woodson down, Erosa leaps with a flying knee. Erosa is pressuring Woodson heavily. What a recovery. Erosa shoots for a takedown. He’s pressing Woodson against the fence. Woodson breaks Erosa’s grip and they return to the center. Erosa is right back in Woodson’s grill. Erosa finally gets a takedown. Woodson pops up, but Erosa dumps him over backward. As Woodson scrambles to his feet, Erosa snatches a neck. He’s going for a d’arce choke. Woodson is in trouble. There’s the tap. Julian Erosa gets the upset!

Round 1 – Witt, who took the fight late Thursday, comes out aggressive. Sato cracks Witt, who flops to the mat. Witt scrambles for a leg but Sato follows up with a series of follow-up shots. Witt is out. That’s it! That. Was. Quick. Sato by KO.

Brendan Allen vs. Kyle Daukaus

Round 1 – Daukaus opens up the fight with a slapping leg kick. The two fighters clinch. Allen lands a punch to the body, followed by a kick. Daukaus shoots for a takedown and is pushing Allen against the fence. Allen spins out away and lands a massive knee to the face, which drops Daukaus. Allen lands into mount and lands some ground-and-pound. Allen is now seeking a choke. Daukaus rolls away. Allen has one hook in on the back. Allen is landing hard ground-and-pound. Amazingly, Daukaus rolls out of Allen’s clutches and shoots for a takedown of his own. Now he’s halfway on the back of Allen. They roll and Daukaus almost snatches hold of Allen’s neck. Instead, Allen spins out and lands in Dauakus’ guard. A hard elbow from Allen opens up a large cut on the forehead of Daukaus. There’s a lot of blood. The round ends. 10-9 Allen.

Round 2 – Daukaus’ cut is better. Nice work by the cutman. Let’s see if it opens back up. Dauakus lands a nice combination and shoots for a takedown. He gets it. Almost immediately, however, Allen threatens a guillotine and rolls on top of Dauakus. Another hard elbow reopens Daukaus’ cut. Dauakus reverses when Allen attempts a guillotine. Now Daukaus is on top of Allen, in half-guard. Daukaus is attempting ground-and-pound from the top. Allen reverses Daukaus, landing hard ground-and-pound. Daukaus is gushing. Daukaus works his way to the fence. Rising to his feet, Daukaus eats a big knee. Scurrying away, Dauakus is floored by a big Allen left hand – right at the buzzer. He didn’t go out but that one hurt. Saved by the bell personified. 20-18 Allen.

Round 3 – Daukaus’ face is bruised and swollen. Allen lands a three-punch combination. Daukaus shoots for a takedown and gets it. Allen is battered, too. For middleweights, these guys are still impressively in this fight cardio-wise. Daukaus shifts to Allen’s back. The body lock locked in by Daukuas. Allen’s left eye is swollen shut. Daukaus is working for a rear-naked choke. Daukaus controls Allen for a couple of minutes. With 20 seconds left, Allen explodes, landing hard punches on Daukaus from the top. The fight ends. That was a good one. For unranked middleweights? A really good one.29-28 Allen.

Maurice Greene vs. Gian Villante

Round 1 – Much was made about Villante’s heavyweight appearance at yesterday’s weigh-ins. Let’s see if he can shut the haters up here. They touch gloves. Greene lands a right hand. Greene throws a push kick to the leg – his switch this camp to JacksonWink is already showing. Greene lands a push kick to the stomach. The two fighters throw kicks simultaneously. The only difference is Greene’s lands on Villante’s cup. Referee Mark Smith calls timeout. Villante takes a brief break, then the action resumes. Villante taps the body of Greene with a kick. With a big wind up, Villante throws a high kick. It’s blocked. Greene throws a head kick. This one is blocked, too – but Villante is knocked sideways. That’s a lot of power. Greene is jabbing, yelling “UH!” with each jab. A thunderous leg kick lands for Greene. Villante answers with a body kick – and another one. Greene is hurt. That body kick hurt him. He’s switching stances. Villante is having trouble going for the kill because of Greene’s size. He’s so rangy. Greene seems to have recovered. Villante hammers Greene’s leg with a kick. Villante whiffs on a kick and stares down at his leg afterward. I’m not sure if he hurt something or if he thought something was on the mat. The round ends. Villante looks at his foot again. 10-9 Greene, but it was close.

Round 2 – Villante tells his corner he thinks he broke his toe. Greene lands another push kick to the midsection. Villante answers with a leg kick. Both men whiff on bombs. If either of those landed, someone would have been floored. Greene is opening up. He lands a combination of Villante, who covers up and circles away. Greene tries a short backfist. It’s blocked. Villante is opening up now. Greene scoots away and resets. Greene pushes Villante backward with another body kick. Villante’s kick thuds on Greene’s outside leg again. Villante hits him there again. Greene switches stances. Greene connects with a right hand. Moments later, Greene lands another right hand. Villante resorts back to his leg kicks. Greene seemingly has no answer for those. A slapping head kick lands for Villante, who goes right back to his leg kicks. He’s landing those at will, really. A haymaker misses for Villante. He looked like he was trying to throw a baseball with that wind-up. The round ends after a few more Villante leg kicks. That round goes to Villante, so we’re tied 19-19.

Round 3 – Greene leaps in. The two grab onto each other – but only briefly. Villante nails Greene with another leg kick. Greene gave a bigtime reaction. Villante is charging in wildly. Another leg kick lands. Villante is pressuring but gets poked in the eye. Mark Smith calls timeout. The doctor examines Villante’s eye. Smith warns Greene. The action resumes. Greene leaps in for superman punch and Villante cranks a brutal counter. Greene hits the canvas and Villante pounces. Villante unleashes a massive amount of hard punches and elbows. Greene is moving correctly, trying to grab hold, but he’s eating a tremendous amount of punishment. Greene survives the onslaught, at least for now. Villante is on top of Greene in half guard. Greene grabs hold of Villante. And wait. What? Villante taps. Wow. That was bizarre. I have no idea how he choked him. That was Aleksei Oleinik-esque. It was a like a modified Ezekiel choke.

The action begins and Perry comes out throwing a powerful combination. It misses. Perry is stalking Gall. Perry is targeting Gall’s leg with brutal kicks. Perry continues to switch stances, giving Gall different looks. Gall rips a body kick. That was loud. Perry grabs hold of Gall against the fence. Gall walks Perry backward toward the center of the cage. Gall breaks the clinch. Perry is bleeding above his left eye. Gall lands a straight left hand. Moments later, he cracksPerry with another one. Perry checks a Gall leg kick. Gall really telegraphed that one. Perry connects with a pair of hard punches. Gall is on his backfoot. Another hard shot lands for Perry. Gall answers. Gall shoots for a takedown. Perry avoids. Two punches land by Perry. Gall lands a punch. Perry catches a kick from Gall and grabs hold. Perry slams Gall over backward. Looking to take the back, Perry gets one hook in. Gall rolls and lands right in a Perry arm triangle. Perry is in half guard on top. The round ends after Perry lands some ground-and-pound. 10-9 Perry.

Round 2 – Perry opens round 2 with a head kick after some in-between-rounds encouragement from his girlfriend-turner-corner. The two fighters exchange. Gall shoots for a takedown. Perry muscles Gall to a standing position and gets a takedown of his own. Perry is in half-guard. Gall works to full guard. Gall threatens an armbar and Perry accuses him of grabbing his glove. Perry lands some hammer-fists. Gall sweeps Perry with a kimura. They scramble to their feet. Gall threatens a guillotine choke, but Perry pops his head out. Gall shoots for a takedown against the cage. Perry escapes any sort of potential danger and the fight returns to the center of the cage. Gall lands a combination. Perry lands a big combination which hurts Gall. Stunned, Gall eats another combination and somersaults to the mat. Perry goes in for the kill. Gall dodges and ducks Perry’s punches. Perry mounts Gall and lands a hard elbow. The round ends. 20-18 Perry.

Round 3 – Gall lands a pair of leg kicks. Perry lands an uppercut and follows it up with two hooks. Perry switches things up and whacks Gall in the gut. Gall is sucking wind. They both land jabs. Perry leaps at Gall, who sticks a jab. Perry is stalking Gall, who is slowing. Perry lands a hard right hand. Gall takes a few steps back – hands down, mouth open. Gall’s back hits the cage and Perry throws a series of haymakers. None of them land cleanly. Perry muscles Gall to the mat. He gets right into mount. Gall gets Perry out of the mount, but Perry returns back there moments later. Perry postures up and lands some ground-and-pound. Gall is elevating his hips, trying to buck Perry off. Gall swings his hips and leverages himself out of Perry’s mount. Perry lands on top and Gall shoots for a triangle choke. Perry circles out and escapes. Perry lands some short punches and the round ends. 30-27 Perry.
