UFC on ESPN+ 13 play-by-play and live results

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – MMA Junkie is on scene and reporting live from Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 13 event, and you can join us for live play-by-play and official results beginning at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT).

The event takes place at Golden1 Center in Sacramento, Calif. The card streams on ESPN+.

In the main event, Germaine de Randamie (8-3 MMA, 5-1 UFC) takes on Aspen Ladd (8-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) in a women’s bantamweight contender fight. In the co-feature, former WEC champion and multi-time UFC bantamweight title challenger Urijah Faber (34-10 MMA, 10-6 UFC) returns from retirement for a home-city fight against Ricky Simon (15-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC).

Benito Lopez vs. Vince Morales

Round 1 – Lopez takes the center and fires out a jab, with a high kick behind it shortly after. Morales moving to his right on the outside and looks to fire punches up the middle. Crowd chanting “Benito.” He’s staying busy with kicks and punches, while Morales sticking to boxing for now. Lopez walking forward and using low kicks to keep his opponent at bay. He’s going to the body and up top a bit, too, keeping Morales guessing. Lopez now adding a few low kicks, as well, but Lopez definitely firing the bigger shots. Lopez with a spinning kick to the body. Damage starting to show on Morales’ legs. He fires a right hand that sends his opponent toppling to the canvas. Morales rushes on top, and Lopez tries to lock up a triangle. Morales pushes the legs away and backs away, and they return to the feet. Morales now brimming with confidence and kicks the leg. Leaping knee from Lopez misses late. Round ends, and MMA Junkie leans toward Morales, 10-9, based on the knockdown.

Round 2 – Quick pace again to start the second, and it’s Morales looking to box but having to get past Lopez’s long kicks from range. Lopez is the aggressor. Morales starting to match the output a bit, though, not allowing Lopez to be the volume guy. Spinning kick to the body for Lopez comes up short. He’s pressing. Halfway through the round. Morales still trying to tee up the big right, but Lopez moving well to avoid it. Lopez pulls back on a leaping knee and then kicks the leg. Morales answers with a combination. Another flurry lands for Morales. Lopez answers with a powerful low kick. Another follows. Morales with another right hand that sees Lopez stumble a bit. Still, Lopez recovers quickly and chops at the leg. They trade until the end. Close round, but MMA Junkie leans toward Morales, 10-9.

Round 3 – Scores could be tight here. Action has been close. Morales now the aggressor to start the third, looking to press with punches. Lopez still moving well and firing kicks to the legs and body. Morales successful with a combination. He’s got Lopez reeling a bit but backs away and resets. Morales is having real success when he drives forward. Another few punches land. Lopez now showing the damage though, and he answers again with a hard, slapping low kick. Two minutes left. Morales continues to find success with his hands. He’s landing as Lopez tries to move forward. Morales attacking, as well, and digging to the body with punches. Lopez still using his kicks, but Morales getting the better of it with punches. Round ends, and MMA Junkie gives it to Morales, 30-27, in a fight closer than that score would indicate. Scores could be anywhere.

Livinha Souza vs. Brianna Van Buren

Round 1 – Fighters have to be repeatedly pushed back to their corner before the start. Once they’re called out, the action starts quickly, with Van Buren firing off several punches before moving into the clinch. The taller Souza controlling well while she defends and sneaks in a few knees to the body. Souza with a quick trip, but Van Buren right back to her feet and continues to press in from the outside. They finally break free about halfway through the round. Van Buren again the aggressor, firing a heavy kick and then some punches before moving again into the clinch. Souza spins off the cage and lands a good knee before the pull apart. Strikes traded, and Souza slips to the floor. Van Buren tags the legs a bit but ultimately lets her opponent stand, though she pushes off the face as she backs away. Souza capitalizes with a late takedown, but she runs out of time. MMA Junkie leans toward Van Buren, 10-9.

Round 2 – Van Buren lands a kick to the body. She catches one from Souza but can’t quite get her opponent off-balance. Van Buren the one walking forward with punches, and she kicks the leg, as well. Souza trying to answer, but right now Van Buren is the one landing the cleaner shots. She unleashes a flurry of punches, and Souza is hurt. Van Buren continues punching away. Souza takes quite a bit of damage before covering and resetting. She’s just a step behind Van Buren. Souza trying to make this a fight, but Van Buren is touching her up right now. Combinations landing clean. Souza showing a chin, but she’s getting busted up. Van Buren is just the one pulling the trigger first and using those strikes to keep Souza away. Round ends on the feet, and MMA Junkie gives it to Van Buren, 10-9.

Round 3 – Touch of gloves to start the third. Van Buren moving well, but Souza trying to get something going. Souza moving forward and chopping at the legs. Spinning kick to the body. Souza leaps forward with a slick little inside trip. Van Buren alertly counters with an omo plata attempt, but Van Buren able to spin through it and back to the feet. She lifts Souza up and looks for the slam, but Souza latches on to a guillotine. Van Buren has to abandon the slam in hopes of shaking her off. She sets Souza down on the floor and is able to pull free and looks to posture and strike. Souza able scramble up to her feet, but she can’t get free. Van Buren grinding in the clinch. Souza protests that there’s no action, and Van Buren unleashes a combination that lands clean. Souza just misses a big spinning kick in reply. Lae takedown from Van Buren takes the action to the canvas. Souza tries to counter with an armbar, but it’s not there. Bell sounds. MMA Junkie gives the final round to Van Buren, 10-9, and awards her the fight 30-27.

Liu Pingyuan vs. Jonathan Martinez

Round 1 – Pingyuan goes to the outside and is circling left. Martinez opens with a low kick. Pingyuan moves forward with a few jabs and a kick to the body. Pingyuan looks the faster man, but Martinez blocking things well to start. He also scores with a leaping front kick to the face. Pingyuan is moving quite well, but he’s not throwing enough as he travels around the cage. Martinez is following and staying in front, firing off punches when he can. Step-in knee from Martinez lands. Punch follows, but Pingyuan answers with a big kick to the body. Big right from Pingyuan. Martinez is hurt. Pingyuan rushing forward, but Martinez covers up and shakes it off. Knee from Martinez. This has turned into a brawl. Punches traded. Leaping knee from Martinez. Great action in the final minute. Another knee from Martinez, and a few punches follow. Fun round to start, and MMA Junkie gives it to Martinez, 10-9.

Round 2 – Martinez again the one controlling the center and walking forward. Pingyuan still moving to his left at a near constant rate. Punches traded. Martinez’s team asking for him to be sharp on the counter. Right now, Pingyuan not doing enough to get much return fire. Crowd getting a little restless. Pingyuan shifting left, and Martinez is following him around the cage. Pingyuan firing off the occasional combination and then moving away before Martinez can really counter. Both men have slowed their volume. Pingyuan seems to be getting the best of the few exchanges, but he’s also moving backward the entire time. Martinez with a leaping knee in the final seconds, but Pingyuan lands a left hand over the top. MMA Junkie gives the round to Pingyuan, 10-9.

Round 3 – Quicker start from both guys after a bad second round. Pingyuan still on the outside and moving left. Martinez still tending to follow rather than cut him off. Good punches from both men. Neither man really seizing control right now, but Martinez the one walking forward. They’re taking turns with their shots. Both men are quick and technical, but neither has really landed clean. Final 90 seconds. Crowd getting restless. Big step-in knee from Martinez lands flush to the chin. Pingyuan crashes to the canvas. A punch follows, but he was done. Vicious finish.

Darren Elkins vs. Ryan Hall

Round 1 – Elkins with his hands high to start, keeping his range to open. Hall circling on the outside with his hands low. He dives down for an Imanari roll that misses. Elkins thinks about grabbing the legs but backs away. Hall with a few kicks from distance. Elkins being very cautious. Hall misses on a spinning heel kick and falls to the floor. Elkins briefly follows but has to back away when Hall grabs his leg. On the restart, Hall lands another kick but hits the deck, and Elkins again only engages briefly. Hall moving well on the feet and looking to kick from all angles. Elkins is struggling to get anything going due to his concern for Hall’s grappling. Spinning kick from Hall lands flush to the face, and Elkins hits the deck. Hall follow and grabs a guillotine. Somehow, Elkins battles his way through it. Unbelievable, and we’re back on the feet in the final minute. Brief timeout for a Hall eye poke, but we continue on. Another spinning. kick to the face lands for Hall, but Elkins won’t stop. Hall attacks the legs to close, but the round is over. Wild round. MMA Junkie gives it to Hall, 10-9.

Round 2 – Hall again working from range and opens with an amazing spinning entrance. Elkins able to send him away. Elkins has to make this a brawl. Hall misses on a roll, and Elkins does punch him a bit before backing away. Left hand lands clean for Hall. Elkins wobbled but fires back. Hall misses another spinning roll, and Elkins punches him before backing away. Hall lands a punch that staggers Elkins, but the battle continues on. Elkins as tough as they come. Two minutes left, and Elkins lands a nice kick to the body. He’s getting aggressive now. Hall still relaxed, flicking out kicks and looking for opportunities to duck into his Imanari rolls. Hall rolls and nearly eats a big knee. He avoids the damage though and then comes back and lands another shot that drops Elkins. Hall attacks on the floor, and Elkins able to scramble free and back to the feet. MMA Junkie gives another round to Hall, 10-9.

Round 3 – Hall still very relaxed to start the third. He’s flowing with kicks, and an early roll misses. Elkins refusing to engage on the floor, but he’s struggling on the feet. Hall falls on another high kick, and Elkins elects not to engage. Hall slips again, and Elkins just backs away. He’s got a healthy respect for Hall’s grappling, but he probably should take a chance. Crowd getting a little restless as Hall turns his back in resetting on the feet. Elkins clinches briefly but lets go. Spinning punches from Hall blocked. He rolls again to the canvas, but Elkins not having it. Back on the feet. Hall again turns his back to scamper away and is booed. Elkins walks through a kick and delivers one of his own. Halls rolls forward, but Elkins stuffs it and backs away. Crowd not liking the finish from Hall. Elkins rushes forward at the bell. MMA Junkie gives the final round to Elkins, 10-9, but awards the fight to Hall, 29-28.

Julianna Pena vs. Nicco Montano

Round 1 – They engage quickly, and after a few exchanged punches, they move to the clinch. Battle for position there, and Montano drives the action to the fence. Pena trying to overpower Montano, but it’s a stalemate. Pena ultimately releases, but Montano is right back into the clinch. She’s relentless in her effort. Pena reaches for the trip, but Montano counters perfectly and sends her opponent to the floor. Pena looks to rise, and Montano slips around to the back. Pena puts her back on the floor to alleviate that danger and moves first to half-guard, then guard. Montano passes one leg, but Pena scrambles and again able to work to guard. She turns briefly and has a nice attempt on the arm, but Montano stacks and fulls free and resumes a bit of striking while on top. Pena with some blood from her right ear. She crawls to the feet and tries to go to the floor for a kimura at the bell. Montano keeps her arm tucked. MMA Junkie gives the first to Montano, 10-9.

Round 2 – Kicks traded to start the second. Montano moving well and mixing up punches and kicks. Pena just walks forward and moves into the clinch, but Montano immediately spins her away and takes the outside position. Pena trying to utilize her power, but Montano doesn’t seem concerned, and she scores a nice takedown from the clinch. Nothing there, so she backs away and kicks the legs a bit, though Pena scrambles up immediately after. On the restart, Pena grabs the neck and just snaps down from there. She tries to grab the guillotine, as well, though Montano able to slip free. Pena in side control and looking to drive in a few elbows. Montano scrambles to regain half-guard. She’s trying to get back to the feet, but Pena is now in firm control and landing punches and elbows from the top. Montano still pressing to get to her knees, but Pena teases an attack on the neck, and she has to focus on that. Montano settles back to the floor to stay safe. Bell sounds, and MMA Junkie gives it to Pena, 10-9.

Round 3 – Pena’s left eye busted up and swelling. Montano with a cut over the right eye. Both women ask for volume from the crowd as they start the third. Pena comes out firing punches and kicks. Montano trying to fire back, but Pena just drives through and takes the action to the canvas. Half-guard for Montano, and she’s trying to escape, but Pena is heavy on top and punching when she can. Pena with the neck wrapped and resting heavy on the hips. Montano trying to scramble underneath, but she’s running out of time. She finally does create some room with a scramble and gets to the feet. On the restart, it’s Montano who lands on top when they hit the deck, but nothing there. Back to the feet for the final minute. Montano needs something special. Pena striking. Montano shoots in the final seconds, but Pena controls the neck as they hit the floor. Round ends there, and MMA Junkie awards it to Pena, 10-9, giving her the fight 29-28.

Andre Fili vs. Sheymon Moraes

Round 1 – Fili pumping out a jab to start. Moraes with a slapping low kick. Fili continues with the jab. Moraes again slams the leg. Fili walking forward, looking to keep the pressure high. Moraes kicking the leg every chance he gets. Fili landing a few of his own down low, as well. Fili firing kicks up top, as well, but Moraes answering back with power. Fili the busier puncher, but Moraes countering well. Moraes with a few powerful kicks, but Fili lands one of his own, and Moraes is wobbled. He chases but then takes his time, picking his shot. It pays off, as he finds a beautiful right hand that stuns Moraes and sends him to the canvas. Fili senses his chance and pounces with punches, finishing the fight on the floor. Impressive win.

Mike Rodriguez vs. John Allan

Round 1 – Rodriguez with his hands high to start, working from range. He throws out a front kick from distance. Allan trying to get his way inside the big reach of his opponent. Rodriguez attacks the legs a bit. Rodriguez high kick blocked. Rodriguez using big kicks to keep Allan away but also firing some big punches behind it. Allan digging in and firing back with power, as well. More punches from Rodriguez and a nice kick to the body. Both men have been stunned already in this fight. Rodriguez moves in the clinch, but Allan able to switch off the fence and then throw his opponent to the floor. Allan on top, and he tries to lock in a guillotine. Rodriguez battles the hands and gets to his feet though, pushing away to restart with a little more than 90 seconds left. Both men firing heavy punches to close. Rodriguez lands a low kick right at the bell. We take a timeout, then resume just to hear the bell. Close round, but MMA Junkie leans toward Rodriguez, 10-9.

Round 2 – Rodriguez trying to keep himself at distance, firing out the kicks again. Allan gets a high kick up top that just misses. The pace is settled, and both men being cautious of each other’s power. Rodriguez using kicks from distance, but Allan closing distance well with big punches. Allan able to grab the body and drag the action to the canvas, briefly sitting over the legs. Rodriguez scrambles up to his feet. Allan tags him with a knee. They go to the floor, as well, but it’s Rodriguez who is able to crawl his way to the top position. Allan is in full guard, and Rodriguez doing his best to create some room to strike. Allan counters with an armbar attempt, and Rodriguez able to pull free, but it sees both men back on the feet. Allan grabs a guillotine choke on the feet and then pulls guard. He squeezes, but Rodriguez pops his head out, finishing the round on top. MMA Junkie gives Rodriguez the round again, 10-9.

Round 3 – Scores could really be anywhere. Rodriguez lands an early low blow, and Allan collapses to the canvas. It’s an extended break, but we carry on. Rodriguez with a few chopping low kicks, Allan walking forward and looking to land big punches. He scores with a right. Big kicks from Rodriguez, but Allan is answering well with punches. Everything being thrown with power. Allan moves inside on the body and clinches, slipping to the back and tripping the action to the canvas. Rodriguez able to work to a seated position. Allan looking for a kimura, but Rodriguez able to keep his arm safe and work back to his feet. Allan with a big knee, and Rodriguez is hurt. Rodriguez grimacing a bit. Allan unleashes a flurry of punches and a big knee, as well. Rodriguez still wobbly, but he lands a flying knee. Allan just pushes through it and is able to drag the action again to the canvas. He’s in top position and looking to strike. Rodriguez gets to guard. They finish there. MMA Junkie gives the final round to Allan, 10-9, but awards the fight to Rodriguez 29-28. Wouldn’t surprise to see it go the other way.

Marvin Vettori vs. Cezar Ferreira

Round 1 – Both men circling to start, measured in their initial approach. Vettori complains of an eyepoke on the first exchange, and Ferreira gets a warning from referee Herb Dean. Vettori seems a little more aggressive on the restart, looking to close the distance. He gets close and starts firing big punches, but Ferreira with his hands high and blocking well. Vettori on the prowl. Ferreira fires a big overhand right that just misses. Ferreira spinning kick comes up just short. Ferreira kicks the calf twice with success. Another lands clean. Ferreira digs with a left to the body. Ferreira thinks takedown, but Vettori rattles in a few punches in tight. Vettori is dangerous, but Ferreira is showing solid defense and returning fire. Vettori grabs a low kick and trips Ferreira to the floor, advancing quickly to mount. Ferreira scrambling to regain guard, but Vettori digging away with punches. Ferreira’s face busted up a bit. He’s trying to keep things tight. Bell sounds. MMA Junkie gives it to Vettori, 10-9.

Round 2 – Vettori comes out swinging hard again. He changes levels and lands a takedown, but Ferreira scrambles back up to the feet. Ferreira’s nose busted up. They clinch, and it’s a bit of a stalemate. Ferreira tags the body, but Vettori scores up top. Big punches traded. Ferreira shakes his head, but both men landing right now. Ferreira back to attacking the leg. Vettori still punching up top, though he is starting to slow a little bit. Ferreira slips on an attack, and Vettori charges with punches. Time winding down. Pace has settled. Vettori’s volume has slowed, but he’s getting the best of the exchanges. Ferreira thinks takedown, but it’s not there. They finish in the clinch. MMA Junkie gives it to Vettori, 10-9.

Round 3 – Ferreira’s face a bit of a mess, and he comes out firing a big spinning kick that misses. He drives in for a takedown, as well, but Vettori able to push him away. Vettori keeps pushing forward, and Ferreira is game, even as he’s behind on the cards. Ferreira shoots forward again, but Vettori defends the takedown well and punishes his opponent with punches. Ferreira slips on a kick but scrambles back up. Vettori clearly tiring but picking his shots well and getting the best of the striking exchanges. Ferreira refusing to just give up, but he’s taking some serious damage. Big right hand lands, but Ferreira just won’t go away. Left hand for Vettori. Ferreira pushes until the end. MMA Junkie gives the final round to Vettori, 10-9, awarding him the fight 30-27.

Karl Roberson vs. Wellington Turman

Round 1 – Both men come out swinging for a quick start. Turman gets hold of the body and looks for the takedown. Roberson resists and is able to stay upright for a bit, but Turman continues working and is able to get the takedown. Roberson scrambles to his knees, and Turman locks his arms around the neck. Roberson quick scrambles past the legs to avoid the choke, and they reset. Scramble, and Roberson gets himself to the top but instantly has to defend against the armbar. He gets free and takes the top. Turman keeping things tied up underneath, looking for options. Roberson keeping himself safe, but he’s not able to really posture and offer any offense. Im the final minute, Roberson able to pass one leg and sneak in a few punches. He briefly looks to isolate the right arm, but Turman pulls it back. MMA Junkie leans slightly toward Roberson, 10-9.

Round 2 – Big strikes again to start, and Roberson with a solid kick to the body and a few punches up top. Roberson with a quick left hand, and he slips the counter. Roberson moves into the clinch. They battle in tight. Roberson controlling from the outside, but Turman is able to slip around to the back. He’s holding tight around the body, but Roberson defends well and spins inside. Turman stays with it and is able to drag the action to the floor. Roberson trapped on his back for now. He tries to get some room to get to his feet, but Turman transitions to his back. Looking for the choke, but Roberson is able to posture and spin in a slick escape. He’s now on top in the final minute, but there’s not much time to capitalize. MMA Junkie gives the round to Turman, 10-9.

Round 3 – Strikes traded to open, but Turman is able to get to a clinch with relative ease. He drags the action to the canvas and has Roberson on his back. Turman wants the back, but Roberson makes sure he can’t get there by settling on the floor. Unfortunately for him, Turman gets to mount. Roberson spins, and Turman takes the back and sinks in the choke. Roberson looks trapped but shows some incredible determination with a fantastic role to pull free. Still, Turman is relentless in his pursuit and gets to the back once again. Roberson again works free and moves to the top. He doesn’t have much time. He lands a few big punches that seem to stun Turman but then backs away. He’s standing over his opponent for several seconds but doesn’t throw anything before the bell. That’s going to cost him. MMA Junkie gives the final round to Turman, 10-9, giving him the fight 29-28.

Round 1 – Emmett moving on the outside as the crowd chants his name. Bektic firing a few punches in spurts, but Emmett covering well. Huge right hand from Bektic, but Emmett slips under. Bektic still the busier man to start, but Emmett unleashes a big right counter that catches his attention. Both men throwing with bad intentions. Bektic high kick blocked. It’s punches back and forth. Bektic is leading the dance, but Emmett is countering well and having some success. Emmett jab drops Bektic. Emmett moves to the floor and looks for the finish with hammerfists. Bektic doing his best to recover, but the big punches just keep coming. Enough of them are sneaking through, and referee Jason Herzog has seen enough.

Faber blasts him with a right hand to the temple, and Simon is hurt badly. He flops to the canvas. Faber pounces with punches. Simon trying to recover. Big hammerfists coming in, and this fight is over. Wild.

Ladd goes to her knees and falls back, as de Randamie goes in to finish on the floor. Referee Herb Dean has seen enough from just the first shot. Fight is waved off, perhaps a bit early.
