UFC on ESPN+ 24 play-by-play and live results

RALEIGH, N.C. – MMA Junkie is on scene and reporting live from Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 24 event, and you can join us for live play-by-play and official results beginning at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT).

The event takes place at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C. The card streams on ESPN+.

In the main event, Curtis Blaydes (12-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) takes on former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos (21-6 MMA, 15-5 UFC). In the co-feature, Michael Chiesa (15-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) meets ex-lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos (29-12 MMA, 18-10 UFC) at welterweight.

Current fight

Michael Chiesa vs. Rafael dos Anjos

Round 1 – Dos Anjos comes out the aggressor, with Chiesa revolving around him. Dos Anjos rips a wicked body punch. Chiesa jumps in and dos Anjos makes him pay with another punch. Despite the blow, Chiesa grabs a hold of dos Anjos. Chiesa pressures dos Anjos against the cage. On dos Anjos’ back, Chiesa has one hook in in the standing position. Chiesa drags dos Anjos to the mat and gets his second hook. Chiesa looking for a rear-naked choke and secures a body triangle. Chiesa trying to sneak the arm under the chin, but dos Anjos escapes. Chiesa lands in mount, but dos Anjos hip escapes to half guard. Dos Anjos escapes in a scramble and the fighters are back to striking in the center of the cage. Dos Anjos lands a hard body kick followed by a potentially even harder leg kick. Chiesa shoots for a takedown and gets it, but dos Anjos uses the cage to scoot back up. The round ends. 10-9 Chiesa.

Round 2 – Dos Anjos lands a hard outside leg kick. Chiesa really doesn’t like those. Chiesa leaps in for a takedown, but dos Anjos stuffs and reverses. The fighters separate. Chiesa tries again – same thing. Chiesa dives in a third time, but dos Anjos slithers out. They’re back in the center. Now, dos Anjos is the aggressor. Two more leg kicks land for dos Anjos. Chiesa ties dos Anjos up in a body lock against the cage. Dos Anjos reverses and tries for a takedown of his own. Chiesa threatens a guillotine choke in order to gain an advantageous position. They’re back up in the center. Chiesa throws an uppercut, but dos Anjos counters with an overhand. Dos Anjos punches the body. Chiesa shoots and secures the takedown. Dos Anjos tries to reverse position, but Chiesa doesn’t let him. Round over. 19-19.

Herbert Burns vs. Nate Landwehr

Round 1 – No touch of gloves and the card commences. Burns lands a hard jab in the first exchange. Moments later, Burns gets a takedown against the fence – and he’s already going for a submission. Burns gets hold of a d’arce choke and it looks tight. Landwehr is scrambling, doing everything he can to avoid being submitted. Burns steps over into mount, but Landwehr pushes him off. The two fighters rise to their feet, but Burns remains hold of the choke. Landwehr is out. Wow. Landwehr lands a shoulder strike a-la-Conor McGregor. The two fighters open up and exchange. Landwehr connects on a slick uppercut, but Burns lands a hard knee. Landwehr is out cold on impact. That’s it. What a way to kick off the card.

Brett Johns vs. Tony Gravely

Round 1 – Gravely kicks off the fight – literally, with a leg kick. The two fighters exchange kicks and Gravely slips. Johns grabs a hold of Gravely and attempts a front choke. Gravely escapes and pulls Johns to the mat. The two bantamweights scramble up and Johns lands on top. Johns scoots around to Gravely’s back and is working for a choke. Gravely elevates, wearing Johns as a backpack. Johns loses a grip on the chin and lands some short punches. Gravely plans his hands on the mat, hip still elevated – likely in an attempt to shake Johns off. Johns attacks and arm and flattens Gravely out. Gravely rises back to his feet. Johns is working the rear-naked choke from the backpack. Johns works is arm under the chin. It’s getting close. Gravely is grimacing, but he escapes. The buzzer sounds. 10-9 Johns.

Round 2 – Gravely comes out aggressive and lands a hard punch to the head of Johns. Shortly thereafter, Johns returns the favor with a hard punch of his own. Gravely pushing Johns up against the cage. Gravely gets hold of Johns’ legs and slams him. Johns gets up, only to be taken down again by Gravely. The American works to the the back, but Johns reverses. The two get back to the feet. Johns pushes Gravely against the cage, before the two reverse positions. Gravely gets Johns down. Johns gets up – and gets put back down again. Johns is back to the feet. The two fighters separate seconds prior to the buzzer. 10-9 Gravely.

Round 3 – Johns grabs a hold of a leg and pushes Gravely against the cage. The two scramble toward the center and Gravely hip tosses Johns. Gravely is unable to maintain control and gives up position. Johns works to the back and attempts a rear-naked choke. Johns trades in the choke attempt for some ground-and-pound. Gravely tries to protect himself from the shots and gives up his neck. Johns sinks in the choke and gets the tap. Brett Johns is back in the win column after back-to-back losses.

Lina Lansberg vs. Sara McMann

Round 1 – McMann throws a right which whiffs.  Lansberg returns with a missed punch of her own. McMann shoots for a takedown and drags Lansberg to the canvas. McMann works to half guard and looks for a kimura. McMann tees off on Lansberg’s body. Lansberg pushes McMann off her. However, McMann grabs a hold of Lansberg’s neck for a d’arce choke. McMann elects to transition back into half guard and once again looks for the kimura. McMann runs out of time as the buzzer sounds. 10-8 McMann.

Round 2 – The two fighters shadowbox, before McMann drags Lansberg to the ground again. McMann is back in half guard. McMann working for the mount and tries utilizing short punches in order to get herself there. McMann resorts back to arm isolation attempts. Lansberg attempts to elevate McMann for a reversal – no dice. Moments prior to the 10-second clacker, McMann finally scoots to mount. However, she’s only able to land one elbow before the round comes to an end. It’s 20-16 McMann through two. Domination.

Round 3 – Lansberg initiates the clinch and pays for it. McMann grabs double under-hooks and drags the Swede to the canvas. McMann is in side control. Lansberg rolls over and McMann takes the back. The two fighters roll and McMann ends up in back mount. The action is briefly stopped when McMann’s mouthpiece falls out. The referee puts the mouthpiece back in and the fight continues. McMann is still on Lansberg’s back, landing short punches to the side of the head. The fight ends with McMann on top. MMA Junkie scores it 30-24 McMann.

Felipe Colares vs. Montel Jackson

Round 1 – Colares lands a glancing body kick. Jackson throws, and connects on, a hard one-two. Colares tries a kick, but Jackson catches it. Jackson gets Colares down, but not for long. Jackson takes Colares down – and they get right back up. Then to no one’s surprise, Jackson gets him down again. Up, down – Jackson gets Colares to the mat in the center of the cage. Colares scrambles up and scoots to the cage, where he briefly attempts a standing guillotine. No dice. Jackson separates and starts unloading on Colares. Left, right, left, right – Jackson lands flush. Colares survives and grabs hold. The two separate and Jackson tags Colares again. And again. And again. Referee Dan Miragliotta is getting close, but the round ends. What a chin on Colares. Yeesh. 10-8 Jackson.

Round 2 – Jackson begins Round 2 where he left off in Round 1. A left cross from Jackson drops Colares. Jackson lands high up on Colares. Colares’s leg is trapped upward in Jackson’s mount. Jackson chokes up on Colares’ leg, but Colares gets up. Colares grabs hold of Jackson’s neck and pulls for a guillotine. No dice. Jackson in Colares’ guard. The two get back up. Jackson pushes Colares against the cage, but Jackson reverses and drags the fight to the mat. The two fighters get up. Colares attempts a hip toss and Jackson lands on his head. The American is unfazed. Jackson gets side control from the back. They get up again. Jackson sees an opening and unloads on Colares. Right, left, right, left – Jackson is landing hard shots. Somehow, Colares survives and Jackson takes him down. Colares threatens a guillotine, but the round ends. 20-16 Jackson.

Round 3 – Before the round commences, Colares pumps up the crowd. Conversely, Jackson looks tired. After timer starts, Jackson grabs a hold of Colares and pushes him up against the cage. They separate and Jackson lands a series of hard punches. Colares won’t go down. Jackson trips Colares to the mat. Jackson is working for an arm submission. Colares scoots back to his feet. Jackson is pushing him against the cage again. Colares reverses a Jackson trip using an arm spin technique. The two fighters get up again. Jackson is pushing Colares against the cage. Jackson takes Colares down again and again. They get up. Colares pulls for a guillotine in perhaps his best attempt of the night. He’s squeezing with all of his might, but it doesn’t appear to be very tight. The crowd is getting behind Colares, but he runs out of time. Dominant fight for Jackson, but Colares showed tremendous heart. 30-25 Jackson.

Justine Kish vs. Lucie Pudilova

Round 1 – Pudilova’s size advantage is evident from the opening bell. She’s staying far on the outside, utilizing her movement. Kish is trying to get inside of Pudilova, but no dice. Pudilova tries a high kick – blocked. Kish lands a couple of outside leg kicks. Jab, jab, jab from Pudilova. Kish rushes in and lands a looping left hook. There’s a ton of movement in the cage right now, but the strikes that are being thrown are minimal – never mind the strikes that are landing. Pudilova is resorting back to the jab. Kish lands a leg kick and the round ends. Close, uneventful round. 10-9 Kish.

Round 2 – Kish continues playing the part of the aggressor early in the round. Kish charges Pudilova and grabs hold of her against the fence. Kish lands a series of awkwardly-angled elbows before the two separate. Kish lands a leg kick. Kish chasing Pudilova around the cage. Pudilova hasn’t been able to muster up much offense outside of a few jabs. A lot of dancing going on inside the cage. Upon the sound of the 10-second clackers, Kish and Pudilova open up for the first time in the fight. Neither landed anything significant, but the exchange woke the crowd up. 20-18 Kish.

Round 3 – Pudilova lands her hardest shot of the fight – a punch right down the pipe. Kish shakes it off and gets back to pursuing chase. Pudilova seems a little more willing to engage here and isn’t circling away as much. Pudilova attempts a superman punch, but misses. Kish makes Pudilova pay with a knee to the face. Kish lands a hard leg kick. More dancing. Kish lands a hard counter spinning backfist – perhaps her hardest shot of the fight. Kish tries a high kick. Pudilova jumps in and Kish sweeps her legs out. Kish is in Pudilova’s guard. From the bottom, Pudilova lands some hard elbows. Kish is briefly pushed off, but dives into side control as the horn sounds. 30-27 Kish.

Arnold Allen vs. Nik Lentz

Round 1 – Lentz lands an overhand right. He’s come out aggressive. Lentz stalking Allen, who continues to circle. Allen lands a short shot and Lentz is bleeding. Lentz lands a hard jab followed by a body kick. Lentz hits and inside leg kick. Lentz grabs hold of Allen and briefly drags the fight to the mat. Allen is back on his feet, with Lentz pushing him up against the cage. Lentz lands a stiff left hand as the two fighters break. Allen throws a slow kick. Lentz half-catches it, but never gets a complete hold. Allen lands a straight left. Lentz lands a body kick and Allen lands another left. The round ends. Close, but MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 Lentz.

Round 2 – Lentz’s pace has slowed. Allen is keeping him at bay with his jab when Lentz comes in. Allen hits Lentz with a hard left which gets oohs and aahs out of the crowd. Allen tries to follow it up with a high kick, but it’s blocked. Allen ties up Lentz and pushes him against the cage. They separate. Allen lands an overhand left. Lentz answers with one of his own. Allen hammers Lentz with an overhand, but “The Carny” just eats it. The featherweights tie up and Lentz lands a punch upon separation. Allen lands a hard knee to the body. Lentz connects with a right hand and grabs a hold of Allen. Lentz is pushing Allen against the fence. Allen reverses. Lentz tries a takedown attempt but is stuffed. Round 2 is over. 19-19 entering the third.

Round 3 – Lentz is back to pushing the action, like he did in Round 1. Lentz wings a looping boxing combination, but it didn’t connect cleanly. Allen lands. Lentz answers. Allen lands an overhand left, which knocks Lentz off balance. Lentz catches himself before he hits the ground. Allen throws and Lentz claims he’s poked in the eye. The referee didn’t see it, so the action continues. Allen grabs Lentz and pushes him against the cage. Lentz shoots for a takedown and Allen stuffs. Allen sticks a hard left. Lentz pushing the pace and tries a head kick. It’s blocked. Allen stings Lentz with a left hook before the siren sounds. Good showing from Lentz. It was much closer of a fight than the oddsmakers predicted, but 29-28 Allen.

Bevon Lewis vs. Dequan Townsend

Round 1 – Townsend throws a kick and Lewis catches. Lewis hammers Townsend with a right hand and enters the clinch against the fence. Lewis threatens a knee, but Townsend escapes danger before the trigger is pulled. Lewis lands an overhand right. Townsend counters with a body shot, but Lewis grabs hold of him again. They’re back in the clinch with Lewis pushing Townsend against the fence. They separate and Lewis sticks Townsend with a stiff jab, followed by a leg kick. Townsend lands a hard uppercut to the body and a knee to follow. Lewis pressures Townsend against the cage again. Lewis lands a knee and the fighters return to the center of the cage. Both fighters throwing heavy power shots, but unable to land. Lewis counters a Townsend jab with a punch of his own. Townsend throws a late flurry, but was unable to land. The two tie up upon the end-of-round bell. 10-9 Lewis.

Round 2 – Lewis resorts to the clinch early in the round. After a minute of pressing Townsend against the cage, Lewis separates. Lewis my have injured his leg. It appears fairly weak. Townsend lands a combination, but Lewis grabs a hold of him. They’re back against the fence with Lewis in control. They separate again. Both fighters let their hands go. Townsend hurls shots with all his might. Surprise, surprise – Lewis ties him up again. Townsend throws a shoulder strike. Back to the center, both men miss on punches. Lewis catches a Townsend kick, but is unable to land the follow-up counterpunch. The two tie up and the horn sounds. 20-18 Lewis.

Round 3 – Townsend lands a hard outside leg kick. Lewis shoots for a takedown, pressing Townsend against the fence. Townsend stuffs it. After much more pressing against the cage, they separate. Moments later, they’re back in the same position. They separate – and end up there again. The sequence repeats. The action output has slowed here in the final frames. Lewis shoots for a takedown, but Townsend stuffs. The bell sounds and Lewis hobbles. He did a good job of hiding his injury minus a few stumbles. Good effort from both guys. MMA Junkie scores it 30-27 Lewis.

Jamahal Hill vs. Darko Stosic

Round 1 – A touch of gloves and the main card is off. Hill opens up with an inside kick to the lead leg of his opponent. Stosic pursues Hill and falls off balance. Stosic does a backward somersault and lands on his feet. Hill utilizing his jab. Stosic lands a hard two-punch combination. Hill rips a kick to the body. Stosic explodes with a boxing combination. Stosic slaps Hill with a high kick across the face. Stosic rips the body. Hill responds with a body punch. They trade body kicks. Stosic lands a punch. Hill throws a hard knee, but it’s caught by Stosic. Stosic drags Hill to the ground. Hill pushes Stosic off and gets up. Hill utilizing one and two-punch combinations. Stosic lands a significant overhand left. Hill plays matador and tags Stosic with a punch as he rushes in. Stosic hammers Hill with another hard punch. The round ends. Super close, but 10-9 Hill.

Round 2 – The action resumes at a high-pace. Stosic lands a hard punch. Both fighters point fight. Suddenly, Hill gets super aggressive. He lands a series of punches and knees to Stosic, who eventually circles out. Both fighters whiff. Hill lands a left body kick and follows it up with a one-two. Another one-two lands from Hill. A UFC debutant, Hill’s jab is crisp and really helping him keep the distance here. Stosic has been throwing less and less as the round progresses. Though his shots aren’t super hard, Hill is picking Stosic apart. Another round in the books in favor of Hill. 20-18 Hill.

Round 3 – Hill lets out a yell to start the final round. Hill lands a series of body kicks. Stosic gets the fight to the mat against the cage and proceeds to pound away at Hill. Eventually, Hill gets back up, but that may have been Stosic’s moment to capitalize on. The sequence was certainly Stosic’s best offense since the start of the second round. Back in the center of the cage, Hill jabs the body. Stosic lands another takedown, but Hill scrambles up along the cage. Stosic is pressing Hill against the fence. They return to the center, where Hill works the lead leg of Stosic. Another jab lands from Hill. Stosic charges in and secures his third takedown of the round. Stosic is in Hill’s guard. Hill is back up briefly, but dumped again at the buzzer. MMA Junkie scores it 29-28 Hill.

Hannah Cifers vs. Angela Hill

Round 1 – Cifers gets a big hometown pop on the introductions from Bruce Buffer. Both women come out with a lot of movement. A feeling out process has initiated, with Cifers and Hill landing short punches. Cifers lands an outside leg kick. Hill is finding some success with her jab. Cifers is standing her ground, chucking knuckles. Hill is taking a more finesse approach, jumping in and out of the pocket. Hill lands an overhand right. Cifers answers with a slapping body kick. The two fighters tie up, but quickly break after two knees from Hill land to the body. The two exchange along the fence. Cifers hits Hill with another outside leg kick. Hill lands a right hand. The two engage in the clinch at the buzzer sounds. 10-9 Hill.

Round 2 – After some insignificant back-and-forth, Cifers attacks the legs of Hill with a pair of kicks. Hill sweeps Cifers and lands in side control. Moving into half guard, Hill slides into the full mount. Thunderous elbows from Hill rain down on Cifers. Those sounded unpleasant. Cifers is squirming in an attempt to buck Hill off. The lengthier fighter, Hill doesn’t appear to be going anywhere. Cifers’ head is cracked open. Referee Kevin MacDonald is warning Cifers. Hill is landing a lot of punches and elbows, but Cifers is still trying to avoid. That’s it. MacDonald waives off the fight. Hill celebrates and shushes the boos from the Raleigh crowd.

Jordan Espinosa vs. Alex Perez

Round 1 – Espinosa lands a right hand. Perez answers with an inside leg kick. Espinosa pokes Perez in the eye, but waives of referee Dan Miragliotta when he tries to step in. Espinosa utilizing a lot of movement. Perez explodes and gets a takedown on Espinosa. Perez in half guard, working for an arm triangle. His body is on the wrong side, but Perez’s grip looks tight. Perez is leaning on Espinosa, who’s visibly uncomfortable. That’s it. Espinosa is out cold. Wow.
