Felipe Colares vs. Domingo Pilarte

Round 1 – Pilarte opens up with a low leg kick. Colares responds with a kick of his own to the body and closes distance. Colaries in the clinch is kneeing at Pilarte’s legs and stomping on his feet. Pilarte is being offensive with up-elbows. Colares throws some elbows as they stand but remain in the clinch. They finally separate after Colares decides against a level change. Colares throws a heavy body kick and closes the distance again looking for a takedown. They’re clinched against the cage, with Colares remaining offensive with high knees. Colares gets the takedown and lands in half guard, but he passes into side mount. Colares is in control of Pilarte’s body and lands some heavy ground-and-pound. Pilartes gets out that position, and they end up against the cage clinched for the final seconds. Good start overall for Colares, who was the aggressor and controlled the action. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 Colares.

Round 2 – Pilarte complains of a groin’ strike as they throw simultaneous kicks in the first 30 seconds, but the referee allows the action to continue. Again, Colares has Pilarte pressed up against the cage and is in control. Pilarte tried to transition into a kimura from standing position to the ground, but he loses it. However, the position is now reversed, with Pilarte in control against the fence. That doesn’t last long, however. Corales muscles Pilarte to the ground, but Pilarte is active in going for a kimura. They stand against the cage with Pilarte in control, Corales appears to be breathing heavy now, and Pilarte attacks with some punches that land before making a level change. Again, they’re in the clinch, but they reset to the middle of the cage. They move near the cage and in the clinch again. Colares goes for an arm throw and ends up in top position. Pilarte, for all of his control much of the round, ends it by fighting off his back, which could look bad to the judges. But MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 Pilarte.

Round 3 – Pilarte takes another kick to the groin’ in the opening seconds, and this time the fight is temporarily stopped. Pilarte recovers after a minute, and they resume. Colares again with the body kick, but Pilarte still closes distance, and they’re clinched against the fence. Pilarte has his back and gets a body lock as they go to the ground. Handfighting ensues as Pilarte sinks in a rear-naked choke across the mouth but lets go. They continue to fight hands. Colares tries using the cage to reverse position but can’t with the body lock still in tight. Corales, probably frustrated, starts throwing punches behind him, even as Pilarte’s arm is squeezing his face. Colares is clearly frustrated now, motioning to his coaches that he’s fine as Pilarte sinks in one last attempt at an RNC. The round ends with Pilarte in complete control the entire time. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 Pilarte and unofficially 29-28 for Pilarte, though Round 2 would seem to be the one in question.

Mario Bautista vs. Jin Soo Son

Round 1 – Both fighters are light on their feet, hopping in and out of distance. Son lands a nice right hand early. Son lands a nice left jab. Bautista goes high with a kick, but Son blocks it. Bautista whiffs with a punch-kick combo, but then lands the end of a right cross. They’re trading some now, each landing some good shots. Son is the first to close in with a takedown attempt, but Bautista was ready. Son has a nice read and throws a flying knee that lands, though it only momentarily stumbles Bautista. They end up in the clinch against the cage as the action finally slows down. They separate with 45 seconds left, and the round seemingly is up for grabs. Both men finish off strong, and this is a tough round to score. MMA Junkie goes 10-9 Bautista, but barely.

Round 2 – It doesn’t take long for these guys to go at it again. Bautista tries for a takedown in the first few seconds, and they end up in the clinch. Against the fence, Son is grinding away for a takedown, and he gets it, but Bautista pops right back up with a standing Kimura locked in. Scary moment there for Son, but he avoids disaster. They separate, and Son gets a beautiful takedown. He doesn’t do anything with it, though, and they’re quickly back on their feet. They’re now trading in the pocket. Bautista gets clipped with an uppercut, but it doesn’t slow him down. Bautista is winning these wild exchanges, and it’s showing on Son’s face. Bautista hurts Son with a right hand, as it drops him to one knee. Son pops up, and they clinch, but Bautista gets creative with shoulder strikes. This has become a dirty boxing match with 50 seconds left. What a crazy round. Both guys land strong, but Bautista got the better of it. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 Bautista.

Round 3 – Son probably needs a finish heading into the final frame. They come out again at a fast pace with standing strikes, just trading with each other. Son lands a hard body shot, but Bautista counters with a hard right hand that slows down Son. They clinch in the center of the cage, and Bautista is throwing elbows. Just more and more trading from both men, and Son finally scores a takedown at the 3-minute mark, bit they don’t stay down long. Bautista is relentless with his attack, although Son isn’t backing down. Both of these are putting it on the line. They’re tired, but it doesn’t matter. Both of these guys are content to give and take huge shots in the center of the cage. Son JUST misses a flying knee. The crowd appreciates what they’re seeing as the final minute arrives. Wow, wow, wow. What a round and what a fight. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 for Bautista and unofficially 30-27 overall.

Ray Borg vs. Gabriel Silva

Round 1 – Both men come out a bit tentative for the first minute until Borg closes distance and misses a right hand, then eats a counter right that seems to stun him. Silva fires off more punches as Borg covers up, then they clinch. Borg has control against the fence and clearly wants the takedown but can’t get it. Borg goes for a guillotine that fails and allows Silva to reverse position and take him down. Silva is in Borg’s guard as they scoot back toward the fence. Borg scrambles up and back into clinch against the fence. Borg’s half-crotch single leg doesn’t go as planned, and Silva transitions to Borg’s back as they sit against the fence. Borg does’t escape until the final 5 seconds. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 Silva.

Round 2 – Borg changes levels nicely early and scores a double leg takedown early. Silva is able to sweep out from bottom position, but Borg locks in a guillotine. He’s squeezing tight, but there appears to be space. Borg was committed, but Silva breaks free an ends up in guard. Borg is on his back, but he doesn’t stay there long as he scrambles and crawls toward the cage. Silva remains latched, though, and sits while having Borg’s back. Silva is trying for an RNC, and it’s a hand fight now. Borg is able to reverse position and transitions into taking Silva’s back. Pretty quick sequence there with Borg getting out of trouble. They get back to standing after a few moments, but Borg again is trying for a takedown. He overwhelms Silva near the fence. Borg throws a hard right hand to a sitting Silva. Borg again takes Silva’s back isn’t able to do much. Close round, good finish for Borg, but still MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 Silva.

Round 3 – Borg again trying to get a takedown early up against the fence. He lifts Silva off the ground and slams him to the mat. It’s a scramble after that, but Borg stays in side control. Silva pops up, but Borg’s pace is relentless, and he scores another takedown. Borg just won’t let go of Silva this round and is clinging to Silva’s back. Borg hooks in both legs and is on Silva like a backpack. He’s controlling hands. This is Borg simply overwhelming Silva with his pace. Not a lot of damage, but control, control, control. He closes out the fight throwing punches and eats a spinning elbow at the horn. Heck of a way for Borg to close out the fight. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 Borg. Overall, MMA Junkie unofficially scores 29-28 Silva, but the close second round could’ve gone either way.

Roxanne Modafferi vs. Jennifer Maia

Round 1 – Remember that Maia was 4 pounds over for this fight. … Modafferi with a nice right hand over the top early. As you’d expect, a lot of feints and moviung from Modafferi. She tries for a takedown but is unable to get it, so they clinch against the fence. Modafferi is working hard for position, but Maia eventually breaks free. She reverses position, and they separate back to standing in front of each other. Modafferi closes in for a double-leg near the cage, and she’s trying to wear down Maia early. Modafferi tries to overpower Maia to the ground with a hip throw but can’t. They go to the ground, but Maia pops up and chooses not to engage on the mat with Modafferi. So, again, Modafferi closes the distance and continues with the grappling pressure, which is how the round ends. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 Modafferi.

Round 2 – They open the round much like they did the first. Maia is circling more instead of walking backwards from Modafferi’s pressure. Maia is finding some success and lands her biggest strike with an overhand right. Modafferi has a cut now on the bridge of her nose. Modafferi is still relentless with pressure and closes the distance for a takedown attempt. They’re clinched again, which seems like a strange decision to see Maia pushing against the fence. She finally breaks free and instantly lands a couple of jabs. Maia lands a big right hand on the way out of Modafferi coming in wild. It’s clear that Modafferi’s punches are just used to close the distance for a takedowns. She tries again, and they’re clinched against the cage. Maia reverses the position but doesn’t break free right away, allowing Modafferi to gain control again. Maia ends the round with a couple of short strikes. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 Maia.

Round 3 – Maia stays on the outside and avoids Modafferi’s early flurry to close distance. After rougly 90 seconds, Modafferi finally closes the distance. This is where she wants the fight in the clinch, but Maia breaks free quickly. She wisely stays outside and picks her shot, but Modafferi won’t stop trying to throw hands to get close. Every time she does, Maia keeps her at bay. But eventually Modafferi closes the distance, and they clinch against the cage. Maia pushes her up and stays in Modafferi’s realm. Modafferi hasn’t been able to score a clean takedown once. They reset with about 1 minute left, and Maia is landing some good strikes. It’s a strong finish for Maia, who clearly wins that round 10-9 on MMA Junkie’s scorecard. MMA Junkie unofficially scores the fight 29-28 Maia.

Sam Alvey vs. Klidson Abreu

Round 1 – Southpaw vs. southpaw here. They size each other up in the opening moments before a front kick from Abreu. He throws another one that misses before landing a right hand and closing distance, straight into the clinch. Abreu’s back is against the fence, but the position is reversed. Abreu lands knee to the groin’ that briefly stops the action. They reset, and both are hesitant to engage until Abreu throws a high kick that’s blocked. Abreu closes distance again and goes for a trip but can’t get it. They separate, and Abreu alands a big left hand that Alvey eats well. A minute later, another big kick attempt by Abreu that does nothing. Abreu and Alvey pick up the pace in the final 10 seconds, with Abreu winning their wild exchange. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 Abreu. … Alvey took issue with a late knee.

Round 2 – Not a whole lot in the first minute. It’s not until a flying knee from Abreu that the action picks up momentarily. It lands, but it wasn’t that hard. Alvey throws a left hand and is the forward fighter suddenly. Nice takedown from Abreu, who goes straight for the back and is looking for the choke. He’s got an arm-triangle locked in from bottom, but it’s not tight. Alvey pulls up and is on top with 90 seconds remaining. Abreu scrambles up after 30 seconds, and they’re standing as the final minite arrives. Alvey misses an uppercut, and they end up in the clinch. They break for the final 10 seconds, but nothing happens. Alvey’s reversal made it interesting, but MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 Abreu.

Round 3 – Abreu lands a nice jab after a minute of action. Alvey is coming forward after spending a lot of the fight looking to counter. Abreu throws a flying knee for the entry, and they exchange a couple of punches before breaking away. Abreu comes back with a big left hand. Alvey suddenly drives in and starts throwing, landing some hard shots. Abreu escapes danger against the cage, though. The action slows down, with Alvey still walking forward mostly. They clinch against the cage after Alvey’s takedown defense holds up. Alvey is trying to stay busy, but they break. After they reset, Abreu wins a brief exchange of blows in the final minute. This is a difficult round to score, but MMA Junkie gives it 10-9 Alvey. MMA Junkie unofficially scores the fight 29-28 Abreu.
