UFC on ESPN+ 6 play-by-play and live results

NASHVILLE – MMA Junkie is on scene and reporting live from today’s UFC on ESPN+ 6 event, and you can join us for live play-by-play and official results beginning at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT).

The event takes place at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., and streams on ESPN+.

In the main event, two-time welterweight title challenger Stephen Thompson (14-3-1 MMA, 9-3-1 UFC) takes on former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis (21-8 MMA, 8-7 UFC), who is moving up to 170 pounds for the first time.

Current Fight

Stephen Thompson vs. Anthony Pettis

Round 1 – Pettis takes a kick early and presses forward. He attacks the lead leg in return as Thompson measures range. Pettis body kick good, and Thompson ducks a punch combo. Thompson pawing with jab and takes another body kick. Pettis in pursuit covering up for Thompson’s counters. Big leg kick for Pettis. Thompson bouncing and getting loose, firing short shots. Pettis’ leg kick is serious, though, and he’s not giving Thompson space to work. Thompson punch combo blocked and he switches stances. They trade body kicks, and Pettis wheel kick gets a slip. Thompson trying to find a way through Pettis’ guard with punches, but so far, no dice. Thompson glances with a pair of shots, and he takes a jab to fire back with a spin kick. Pettis with a nice straight right that pushes Thompson back. They trade leg kicks and Thompson has a second to work. They both fire punches that miss, and MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Pettis.

Round 2 – Pettis forward immediately, and Thompson fires kicks in his way. Pettis goes back to the lead leg with kick. Thompson lowers his hands and fires a jab before going high. He nearly times a punch and then gets out as Pettis pursues with another low kick. Thompson now planted, waiting for Pettis’ approach. He’s getting Pettis to bite and charge back for the counter, and that’s when he unloads unpredictable shots. Several leg kicks slam Pettis, who has to chase his way down for a return. Nice straight right from Pettis. Pettis charging back after Thompson’s combos to make him pay for incursions. Thompson’s jab has been good for much of the round. Another chopping leg kick from Pettis. Hook kick good for Thompson, who’s again getting Pettis to bite on his feints. Pettis’ nose is busted up. Out of nowhere, Pettis launches a superman punch that knocks out Thompson before he hits the canvas. Out of nowhere.

Curtis Blaydes vs. Justin Willis

Round 1 – Blaydes rips the leg to start and potshots as Willis waits. Blaydes ducks for the leg and gets Willis against the fence. He scoops the leg, but Willis stays heavy and stops it. Knee sets up trip from Blaydes, who quickly advances to quarter mount. Willis turns to his stomach and tries to trap Blaydes’ arms. Blaydes at Willis’ back, punching away. Willis gets to a knee and takes knees to the butt. He stands, and is tossed to the mat. Blaydes pounds from Willis’ back. Willis gets to a knee again then is tossed back down as he stands. Blaydes follows him with punches as he crawls to the fence, and again, he takes a knee. Blaydes working knees to the butt. Willis attacks a kimura, and he tries to stand when Blaydes defends. Blaydes riding Willis against fence, kneeing the legs. Willis stands and fights another trip to the mat, but again, Blaydes puts him down. Same position, and round ends with Blaydes punching. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Blaydes.

Round 2 – Blaydes circles around as Willis inches forwqafd. Right hand drops Willis, and Blaydes charges to seize the initiative. Willis blatantly fence grabs, but it’s not enough to keep him upright as Blaydes elevates and slams him to the mat. Blaydes advancing to mount, and Willis turning to prevent that. Not enough, and Willis turns to his side. Big elbow from top. Willis crawls to the fence and takes a knee. Deja vu. Hook in, and Willis spills to his side, grabbing an arm in desperation. Blaydes in mount as Willis lies on his side. Willis crawls to the fence and, well, you know. Knees to the butt. Blaydes tosses Willis down but nearly winds up on bottom during the trip there. Blaydes still manages to regain the position he’s been in the entire fight, punching Willis at the back. Willis talks some trash and looks more irritated than anything else. Time runs out, and MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 for Blaydes, who’s up 20-18.

Round 3 – Blaydes bounces forward, changing levels. They trade punches for a second, but Blaydes backs off. Willis kicks high and it’s blocked. Willis not sitting down on anything for fear of the shot. He inches forward, and Blaydes ducks under for a shot. Position isn’t there, and he backs off. Willis fires off a one-two, and Blaydes drives him to the fence. Willis tries to resist, and Blaydes tries to drag him down with a body lock. Finally, Blaydes backs off, and Willis has one last shot here. He fires a left that misses, and Blaydes ducks under for an easy takedown. In half guard, Blaydes rides Willis as he turns and punches the side of the head. Willis crawls away and takes more hammerfists. Willis gets to one foot and grabs the fence again. Blaydes at his back, kneeing the legs. And that’s a wrap. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Blaydes, who gets the 30-27 shutout.

John Makdessi vs. Jesus Pinedo

Round 1 – Makdessi slowly pressing in, flicking kicks low. Pinedo tries to go high and continues to circle to his left. Makdessi kicks low, and Pinedo pulls a kick and resets. Makdessi with a side kick. Pinedo comes back with a high kick and retreats as Makdessi kicks back. Audience not digging this fight. Makdessi lands a straight in their first exchange of the round. Side kick from Pinedo caught, but no takedown. Makdessi chides Pinedo for running and spins in for a backfist. Makdessi in with a body kick. Pinedo again with the high kick and Makdessi charges to catch a leg and land a punch. Pinedo refuses to stand and engage for the most part. Makdessi takes what he can with the leg kicks. Pinedo reels off that high kick, and Makdessi counters a low kick with a straight right. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Makdessi.

Round 2 – Makdessi pushes the fight with kicks, and Dean warns for action. Makdessi catches a counter kick and dumps Pinedo, who pops back up. Back to the legs for Makdessi, and Pinedo tries a one-two. Pinedo’s body kick is partially blocked. Makdessi goes back to the legs and nearly avoids a straight counter. Makdessi repeatedly kicking the lead leg, and it’s now bright red. Kicking exhibition by Makdessi. Pinedo oblique kicks the lead leg of Makdessi, who replies with his own leg kicks. More high attempts from Makdessi, and then low. Nice right hand by Pinedo, but little follow up. More kicks traded, and they trade straight punches. Pinedo side kicking the lead leg, and Makdessi pushing back with low kicks. Makdessi lands a switch kick, and finally Pinedo comes after him, landing punches and a head kick that wobbles Makdessi. Pinedo goes airborne and gets blocked to end the frame. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Makdessi, who’s up 20-18.

Round 3 – Makdessi goes back to the leg and then headhunts. Pinedo’s return is blocked. Pinedo circling around, blocking Makdessi’s kicks. Pinedo tries the high kick again, and they’re in punching range barely. Makdessi kicking the legs and popping a jab. Pinedo’s combo is blocked, and he goes back to his lead leg side kick attack. Dean urges action. Makdessi spins and misses with kick. Pinedo baits in Makdessi and glances with a pair of strikes. Makdessi circles around and sticks the jab. Pinedo again connects, but there’s little follow up before they go back to kicking each other. Nice one-two from Pinedo, and Makdessi tries to come back. Body kick from Pinedo is caught, and he tries to kick with his free leg. Makdessi sticks a punch after deflecting a body kick. Pinedo goading him and landing a pair of punches. Pinedo comes in swinging and connects, and Makdessi is taking more shots. Makdessi lands a pair of punches inside, and Pinedo replies with his own in the final exchange of a very forgettable fight. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 for Makdessi, who takes the 30-27 shutout.

Jussier Formiga vs. Deiveson Figueiredo

Round 1 – Lots of eyeing as they size each other up. Formiga whiffs a high kick, and Figueiredo is pushed back after a trio of jabs. They collide and trade knees before breaking off. They briefly clinch up, and Figueiredo sneaks in an uppercut. Formiga comes back with a straight right, and they reset. Formiga spins with a backfist and they bounce off the cage and reset. Figueiredo closing again, and they clinch up briefly before breaking off. Chess match so far. Formiga surprises Figueiredo with a takedown and has top position against the fence. Formiga passes to half-guard and misses mount due to the cage. Figueiredo uses an underhook to get up, but Formiga has the body lock. Formiga tries to power Figueiredo down, and Figueiredo bounces back up. Trip puts Formiga back on top, and in full mount. He pounds as time grows short, landing a big elbow as the round ends. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 Formiga.

Round 2 – Formiga attacks the leg, and Figueiredo closes, looking for punching opportunities. He whiffs on a hook and resets. Hand fighting as Formiga tries to tie up, and Figueiredo pulls back and throws heavy hands. Formiga goes back to kicks and gets caught with a glancing shot. Formiga ties up whenever he gets in close. Formiga converts a clinch into a takedown by snatching a leg, and he’s on top in guard again. Plenty of time to work, and he postures up as Figueiredo strikes from the bottom. Formiga lets his hands go from top, and Figueiredo tries a reverse armbar briefly. More ground and pound, and Figueiredo appears content to stay on bottom. Figueiredo lands an elbow that cuts Formiga, who still manages to pass to half guard. Figueiredo recovers half-guard and Formiga again passes to half-guard. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Figueiredo, and it’s even at 19-19.

Round 3 – Figueiredo charges with a superman and fights off a quick clinch. Figueiredo cracks Formiga with a left hand, and Formiga cliches up against the fence. Figueiredo turns him and takes a punch backing off. Figueiredo works his uppercut again, and a brief clinch is broken. Another clinch as Figueiredo closes, and a familiar rhythm has settled in, with Formiga ducking under for the clinch to minimize the threat. Figueiredo whiffs on a shot and meets the cage. Figueiredo trying to corner his man. Formiga pops him with a right and clinches, resisting a trip. Formiga ducks under for a takedown, and Figueiredo tries a guillotine. In half-guard, Formiga works to pass. Full mount. Figueiredo bucks and recovers half-guard, and he kicks off Formiga to stand. Formiga holds the body lock and follows to the cage. Figueiredo spins free and chases down Formiga, looking for the homerun shot. Formiga ducking under and countering with short shots, and a spin backfist connects. Nice one-two from Formiga, who grabs a leg as Figueiredo sprawls. Time runs out with Figueiredo chasing, and MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 for Formiga, who gets the 29-28 call.

Luis Pena vs. Steven Peterson

Round 1 – Peterson leaps across the octagon with a punch, they trade kicks, and Peterson presses right into the clinch for a takedown attempt. Pena fights the trip south and gives up a leg, which Peterson grabs. Pena takes an arm and rolls for a kimura and rolls over Peterson, who retorts with an armbar attempt. Pena gets free with a huge slam, and he pounds as Peterson attacks a leg. Pena takes top position and then stands overhead as Peterson bicycles his legs. He settles back to guard, then stands again, and Peterson takes a hard shot as he stands up. Pena is all over him against the clinch, smothering before backing up and nailing him again. Peterson ties up to prevent more elbows, and Pena misses a throw. Back in center cage, Peterson works to reestablish his striking, and Pena leaps with a knee that connects. Peterson still presses forward and goes to the body before going upstairs. They collide, and Peterson pushes to the fence. Single leg attempt prompts a knee up the middle and one-two from Pena, and time runs out. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Pena.

Round 2 – Peterson charges again and runs right into Pena’s counters. Pena tries to stay long and use the clinch to stop his foe. He then backs off and counterstrikes, but Peterson scoops the legs and gets the takedown. As Pena stands, Peterson climbs on his back and tries for the choke. He tumbles over Pena and eats a combo. They trade power shots in open range before Pena presses back into the clinch. Peterson turns Pena and scoops the legs. Pena turns and stands up, and Peterson dumps him again. Pena stands, and Peterson again hops on the back. This time, gravity is no friend of Peterson, who holds one leg and bides his time. Pena angling for the kimura, and Peterson turns him. Pena breaks off and nails Peterson with a combo to get back to distance. Pena’s range is too much for Peterson, who eats another flying knee. He spins with an elbow and connects, but Pena eats it and continues to put combos on target. Peterson pushes for another takedown and defends the kimura. Pena turns him and breaks free before connecting with punches that end the round. MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9 for Pena, who’s up 20-18.

Round 3 – Peterson again comes swinging, and Pena locks him up in the clinch. Takedown fails, and he backs up to strike at distance. Peterson eats punches marching forward, but he continues to press forward and drives for the takedown. Pena wheels to the back against the fence as Peterson stands. Pena breaks off and continues to make Peterson wade through his rangy shots. A nice inside leg kick sets up another Peterson takedown attempt. Pena sits on a kimura attempt and secures guard to twist for the finish. Peterson hangs tight and settles into guard. Pena bucks and reverses with ease, and he’s on top in guard. Peterson elbows the head and then attacks an arm. Pena stacks him ashe rolls for a leg. Pena pounds from the top and spins out of trouble to stay overhead. Peterson gets up and is greeted by a kick to the face. He drives for a takedown and hits the fence. Pena hits the switch and gets to the back before turning Peterson. He breaks off and fires a final combo as the bell rings. MMA Junkie scores the round 10-9 for Pena, who gets the 30-27 shutout.

J.J. Aldrich vs. Maycee Barber

Round 1 – Aldrich immediately forward, grabbing the leg to initiate a takedown. Barber pushes her back with a flurry of punches and kicks, and they reset. A leg kick draws a hard punch from Aldrich, who drops Barber to the mat. Aldrich doesn’t follow her to the ground and instead punches back in when Barber gets up. There’s that straight left again, and Barber gets tagged. She counters with an inside elbow, and they reset. Aldrich isn’t biting at Barber’s feints, and they both connect on power straights. Barber’s kicks are drawing Aldrich’s hands. Aldrich has a little bit of speed on Barber, and she’s using it to her advantage by getting in and getting out. When Barber kicks, she tags Barber. Superior angles so far, and Aldrich powers forward for another hook. Barber again gets tagged on a leg kick, and she tries that inside elbow again as they clinch. Aldrich pulls back as Barber goes high and then jabs as Barber kicks. Aldrich’s pressure is mkaking Barber make mistakes. She again sends Barber to the mat off a counter punch, but again, doesn’t follow and elects to strike. Time runs out, and MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Aldrich.

Round 2 – Aldrich presses early, and Barber tries to tie up. Back to the body kick as Aldrich pressures her. Again, the left straight is good off the kick. Aldrich clinchs up and trades shots with Barber, and she breaks off with a big shot. Barber continues to kick, and again, Aldrich makes her pay. Nice left hand from Barber, but she walks right into a combo in the next exchange. They trade straight shots, and Barber overcommits and gets countered. Barber moving forward more this round, and she wraps up the blinch, firing elbows inside before Aldrich breaks off. Barber having more success keeping Aldrich moving, and a left hand sends Aldrich backpedaling. Aldrich ducks under to clinch and slow things down. But Barber breaks away and fires off another shot that badly hurts Aldrich, who covers up for dear life as a knee and more punches connect. Seeing no intelligent defense, Peterson steps in to stop it.

Bryce Mitchell vs. Bobby Moffett

Round 1 – Mitchell leads with kicks, and Moffett tries to counter with punches as he charges back. Mitchell goes to the body with his straight left and continues to press Moffett back. Then a left hook stuns Moffett, who recovers quickly from the shot to go for a takedown. Mitchell tries to wrap the neck for a guillotine, and Moffett gets out by grabbing a leg. He nearly gives up his back, but eventually powers into guard. Mitchell quickly wraps up a triangle. He attacks with an armbar as Moffett tries to roll away. Moffett hangs tough and Mitchell is forced to give up as they get back to their feet. Moffett still swinging with his fists, and Mitchell drops for a takedown. Moffett sprawls against the fence and clips Mitchell with a right hands when they return to standing. Moffett clinches up, but Mitchell shucks him off and kicks low. Then an overhand right sets prompts Mitchell to grab a leg and drive for a takedown. He fails to kick out the leg, and Moffett recovers control against the fence. Mitchell spins him, and time runs out. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Mitchell.

Round 2 – They trade leg kicks, and Moffett presses forward for a takedown. Mitchell tries to hit a switch and instead grabs for a kimura as they hit the fence. Mitchell tries to crawl away, and Moffett pounds with his free hand. Tough spot for Mitchell, but he powers to his feet after nearly giving up his back. Moffett continues to press forward aggressively as Mitchell fights backward. Moffett ties up and fires off a knee, and Mitchell pops the body. Moffett running right into that left hand, but he’s trying to chip away at his foe’s conditioning. Moffett charges into the clinch and uses body lock to get the fight down. Mitchell hints at a kimura, and Moffett wraps his head as he sits up. D’Arce setup, and Mitchell rolls him over as he powers forward. Mitchell walking his legs to keep Moffett from finishing the choke. Moffett forced to give up the arm triangle, and Mitchell takes the back in a scramble. He wraps up a crucifix as Moffett sits back and continues to attack an arm. Moffett powers to top position and pulls out of a leg triangle to end the frame. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 for Mitchell, who’s up 20-18.

Round 3 – Mitchell comes forward with a flurry of punches and looks for the takedown against the fence. Moffett denies, and they return to center cage. Moffett ducks under for his own shot and is rebuffed, but he tries again and gets the takedown after Mitchell misses a switch. Mitchell again attacks an arm, and Moffett pulls out. Mitchell scrambles to his feet after Moffett tries to pass. Moffett grabs a leg and can’t get it. Mitchell continues to counterpunch with his left, but Moffett’s pressure is relentless, and he spills to the mat. Midway through the round, and Mitchell hangs on for dear life as Moffett tries to punch. Mitchell sits up and again goes right into a D’Arce setup. He has to give it up as Mitchell rolls to his knees, gets to the back and sinks one hook. There’s another as Moffett sits up, and Mitchell has the arm under the neck. Moffett manages to pull out of it and tries to stand. Mitchell looks for the choke, and Moffett shucks a hook and stands. Mitchell hangs on the back as time runds out, and MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Moffett, giving Mitchell the 29-28 call.

Marlon Vera vs. Frankie Saenz

Round 1 – Saenz comes right after Vera and takes a knee off a kick. Vera resets and kicks as Saenz approaches. Saenz catches a leg and wings a punch, then resets. Saenz trying to bully his way inside with kicks, and Vera’s accuracy is giving him trouble. Jab drops Saenz as he charges in to grab a leg, and he hits the mat and holds on to the limb. Vera pounds away with hammerfists, and Saenz rolls to his knees as the punishment continues. Although some of the shots may have been illegal, ref steps in to wave it off.

Alexis Davis vs. Jennifer Maia

Round 1 – They trade hard jabs and Maia comes over the top with a right. Maia’s fists meet Davis’ kicks, but Davis still aggressively pushes in. Davis ducks under punches to clinch and press to the cage. Maia fights off the level change and takes knees to her legs. Davis breaks off, and Maia circles out. Maia wraps the clinch off a combo and Davis presses her back to the fence. She tries to escape and takes more knees from Davis. They trade against the fence, and Maia lights up Davis with punches. In the collar ties, Maia hurts her with a punch and tries to shoot. Maia sprawls and Davis goes to her back. Maia wants Davis up, and Davis stands and presses in to meet another flurry of fists. Big windup gives Davis the clinch opportunity, and the action stalls. This time, Maia turns Davis against the fence and holds. Maia with punches while Davis knees the legs and body. Round ends in the clinch, and Maia gets the 10-9 score.

Round 2 – Another exchange of punches, and Davis goes high with a kick. She punches into the clinch, and Maia fires off a knee before backing up and extending a right as Davis approaches. Kicks from Davis in close, and Maia resets and counters. Maia’s right is good, but Davis’ kicks are scoring. Maia now going to the body, and a body kick is caught for a big Davis takedown. Davis goes right into mount and resists the sweep. Ground and pound from up top, and Maia struggles to hang on. Maia retakes a leg for half-guard, and Davis works short punches. Pass attempt fails, and Davis isolates an arm for a keylock. Knees to the body from Davis. Maia trying to escape, but Davis too heavy on top. Short punches on top, but no serious submission attempts from top position, and round ends. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 for Davis, and it’s even at 19 all.

Round 3 – Maia punching off Davis’ kicks early. So far, The Brazilian is having more success with her fists. More volume inside, but Davis’ kicks again landing regularly. Davis just takes the punches and keeps coming, and eventually she lands her own shots and follows to the leg or body with a kick. Nice one-two from Maia, and Davis chases to get it back. Body kick still good for the Canadian. Popping jabs from Maia, and she slips on an exchange. Davis lands another body kick and again fires it as Maia punches inside. Maia with punches against Davis’ leg kick. Big right hands as Davis lands the kick. Over and over, Davis lands the kick to the body or leg, and Maia lands a right to the head. Maia finally checks a kick. Davis powers into the clinch and presses Maia to the fence, working knees, and Maia circles off. Another body kick from Davis ends the fight, and MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Maia, who gets the 29-28 decision.

Randa Markos vs. Angela Hill

Round 1 – Early kicks traded with Hill finding success high and mid. They collide 30 seconds in and clinch up, with Hill turning Markos against the fence. Knees traded, and Markos sneaks in an elbow. They trade punches, and Markos chases Hill across the cage with punches and then transitions to the clinch for a takedown. In side control, she stays heavy as Hill tries to buck. Markos steps into quarter mount, and then pistons her left as Hill turns away, stuck against the cage. Hill rolls to her knees, and Markos keeps a hook. As Hill turns toward her stomach again, Markos again steps over to mount and punches again before fully taking the back. Markos attacks an armbar, and Hill tries to power to her hands and knees. Gravity helping Markos briefly, but Hill hanging tough. Markos keeps cranking, though, and eventually Hill’s arm pops free. She’s forced to tap, and Markos gets the submission win.

Ryan MacDonald vs. Chris Gutierrez

Round 1 -Gutierrez attacks the legs early, spinning MacDonald before attempting high. Second high attempt slaps MacDonald, who stumbles trying to come back with his own shot. MacDonald’s legs are getting torn up early. He’s trying to get inside with punches, and Gutierrez’s kicks are making it tough. More teeps to the leg and body from Gutierrez. Wheel kick whiffs for Gutierrez, who goes to the body on the next punch. MacDonald charges back and tries his own punch combos, which are short. Gutierrez goes to the body again with a punch. Gutierrez slowly cornering MacDonald, setting up for a big punch and keeping his foe off balance with kicks. Glancing straight from MacDonald, and Gutierrez tries a few kicks. Nie jabs from Gutierrez, who follows up to the body and whiffs on a wheel kick. They exchange punches briefly before breaking off, and MacDonald ends a combo with a nice leg kick. Gutierrez ends the frame with a spinning elbow that puts him in the clinch. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Gutierrez.

Round 2 – MacDonald is bleeding from his forehead. Gutierrez gets going with low kicks and teeps, looking for an angle to punch. A leg kick hobbles MacDonald briefly, and body kick follows. MacDonald presses forward with punches and gets caught with a leg kick. Gutierrez very active with kicks, and it’s breaking MacDonald’s rhythm. He’s spending more time thinking about what’s coming his way than reacting. When he pushes forward, Gutierrez picks him apart with more kicks. MacDonald’s best hope is brute strength, which he tries with straight forward attacks. Gutierrez nails the leg again, and MacDonald is limping. Kick after kick from Gutierrez, and MacDonald is swimming. His leg is getting chopped up, and jabs are battering his face. Gutierrez back to the body with his straight. It’s all feints from Gutierrez, who sprawls on a shot and wraps the head. MacDonald goes to his back before popping up. This won’t be a ground fight. Another leg kick nails MacDonald. He catches a body kick and walks Gutierrez to the cage. He doesn’t have the strength to hold the clinch and dives again for a takedown after another kick nails him. Gutierrez to the body now as MacDonald hobbles back. Spin elbow from Gutierrez interrupted by final bell. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-8 for Gutierrez, and he’s up 20-17.

Round 3 – MacDonald hobbles after getting clipped with another kick. MacDonald powers forward and tries to clinch, and no dice. Gutierrez still kicking low and to the midsection. MacDonald trying to run down his opponent. Without his leg strength, that’s tough. Gutierrez circling to the weak side and looking for the power right. Another charge from MacDonald, and another. Midway point. MacDonald now attacking the legs, and Gutierrez slaps him with a head kick before going low with a punch. Lunging knee as MacDonald approaches, and low kicks sting him. MacDonald presses in to the clinch, and Gutierrez breaks off. More leg kicks from Gutierrez, and MacDonald again charges. Gutierrez dodges and puts himself on his back as he tries a kick sweep. Triangle from the bottom, and MacDonald tries to put some ground and pound on his foe. Gutierrez scrambles up and jumps for a guillotine as time expires. MMA Junkie scores it 10-9 for Gutierrez, who takes the 30-26 decision.

Eric Shelton vs. Jordan Espinosa

Round 1 – Espinosa feinting early, and spins with a side kick. The takedown duck under comes next, and Shelton gets away taking a knee. Espinosa comes back with a right hand and resets. Another spin from Espinosa. Shelton hasn’t done much so far, but he cuts off the next approach of his opponent. Espinosa attacking the lead leg in return. Shelton wings a left hook as Espinosa comes close, and Espinosa smiles and waves him on. Shelton counters well with a right hook off the same from his foe. But he’s staying patient as Espinosa moves frenetically. Now, Shelton advancing and nearly cuts off Espinosa with a right. Espinosa using a jab as Shelton advances, then kicks, one of which goes south. We pause. Espinosa back to low kicks. Shelton fires a right, and Espinosa ducks under for the shot. Cage stops them, and Espinosa breaks with a knee. Shelton comes back and misses a hard overhand right. Espinosa just a little faster in the pocket, and even if his movement is often wasted, his volume is winning the day. Shelton hits a nice low kick, and we end with MMA Junkie scoring the round 10-9 or Espinosa.

Round 2 – Shelton comes back early on a low kick with his right hand. He’s moving forward and being more aggressive, pushing Espinosa back. Espinosa back to his low kick and jab. Shelton catches a kick to score with his right. Espinosa takes a glancing left hook as he kicks, and Shelton tries to shuffle into range. Espinosa fakes into a nice right hand for himself. Shelton still flat-footed most of the time, which is exposing him to low kicks. Shelton keeps trying that overhand right while Espinosa kicks low and circles off when it gets too hot. Shelton is still short trying to catch his man moving backward. But he manages to stick a right hand before Espinosa resets. Nice left from Espinosa as Shelton charges. Jab defusing Shelton’s approach. Shelton smacks him with a left as he gets a little too loose. Espinosa plants at the cage, daring Shelton to come in, then circles off when he obliges. Takedown comes after Shelton sits down on a shot. They scramble to their feet, and Shelton resumes his chase. He’s got Espinosa cornered, and a jab and kick pushes him back. Time and time again, Espinosa is escaping off the left side. Shelton flurries forward, and Espinosa goes the other direction. MMA Junkie scores the frame 10-9 for Espinosa, and he’s up 20-18.

Round 3 – Shelton back in pursuit, and the ref pauses the action. Towell used to scrub canvas, and we start anew. Espinosa jabbing as Shelton presses, and Shelton takes a finger to the eye off a kick. He singles to the ref, and we pause. Espinosa now moving forward and spins with a kick. Shelton presses him back with a jab and low kick. Shelton again whiffs on a charge. He takes the leg kick and then catches it on the next one to work his right hand. Shelton again meets Espinosa with the overhand. When Espinosa kicks, he goes again with the same. Espinosa goading him with lowered hands. Espinosa’s speed is getting him out of the way just in time as Shelton punches. Jab covers his retreat. Shelton with a nice calf kick. He needs something big here, and so far, none of his punches are getting Espinosa’s attention. Espinosa nails him with a jab, and his kick is caught for a Shelton counter. Espinosa takes a jab off his own and moves to the cage. Shelton’s time, and he catches the kick again to fire a right. Espinosa circles off as another forward attack follows. Shelton nails a jab, but he’s running out of time. Espinosa’s left hook is good, and Shelton replies with a nice right. Now, he’s going for blood, and Espinosa is fighting backward as they trade power punches in bunches. MMAjunkie scores the frame 10-9 for Shelton, but Espinosa gets the 29-28 call.
