Unsure of fighting future, Alan Jouban focused on goal of becoming UFC color commentator

Alan Jouban may or may not have fought for the last time, but he has diverted his attention to a new goal.

Jouban (17-7 MMA, 8-5 UFC), who has thrilled fans with entertaining bouts and finishes throughout his MMA career, is looking to develop a new chapter. The UFC welterweight, model and actor wants to delve deeper into commentary and is no stranger to being in front of the cameras.

With plenty of appearances on “UFC Tonight,” as well as serving as an analyst for UFC Fight Night 183 and most recently commentating at LFA 97, Jouban has aspirations of landing in the UFC’s commentary booth in the near future.

“Being a part of the broadcast team has been a long-term goal of mine since I joined the UFC,” Jouban told MMA Junkie. “At 39, I really don’t know what’s next for my career. I kind of feel how Paul Felder did where he took a step back for a while. But obviously, I couldn’t do it too long if I wanted to come back.

“In the meanwhile, I’ve loved working the desk lately on a lot of fights and absolutely have color commentary in the UFC as my main goal. I started working some color with LFA recently, and it’s been a great experience and learning experience to get more reps.”

Jouban also has recently started a podcast with radio personality Jason Ellis called “G’day MMA,” which is downloadable on all platforms, as he continues to build on his broadcast career.

“With that all that’s going on I linked up with Jason Ellis and started a new podcast ‘G’day MMA,’” Jouban said. “Been knowing Jason through fighting for years, and we are both really excited about the prospect, the feedback we’ve been getting from our new show. I think it’s going to climb the ranks in the combat podcast world very fast. He’s great at adding the laughs through serious conversation where I can stay in my lane talking fighting, which I know best. …

“I think once the combat world takes a listen to our show, they’ll appreciate the insight, analysis and humor that we bring.”

Henry Cejudo: Bo Nickal needs to hold his horses, ‘maybe 10 fights away from possibly becoming UFC champion’

Henry Cejudo doesn’t think Bo Nickal is quite ready for the top after UFC 300. Nickal (6-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) remained unbeaten when he submitted Cody Brundage (10-6 MMA, 4-5 UFC) in Round 2 of Saturday’s main card opener at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Nickal gave himself two...
