USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA rankings, Aug. 21: Gearing up for lightweight movement
The UFC gets back in action Saturday in Nebraska, and that will mean some movement in the always-stacked lightweight division.
In the UFC Fight Night 135 main event at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb., Justin Gaethje (18-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) takes on James Vick (13-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC) in a lightweight fight that increasingly has some grudge-match implications.
Gaethje currently sits at No. 7 in our 155-pound list. Vick isn’t far behind at No. 9. The oddsmakers have made Vick a slight favorite in the fight, and former WSOF champion Gaethje will be trying to snap a two-fight skid – though both were “Fight of the Night” winners.
How far can Vick climb with a win over Gaethje? We’ll have to see how the headliner plays out in Lincoln. But ahead of that, check out our full list at lightwieght and the rest of the rankings above.
