‘We don’t have outside business’: Mike Perry says beef with Julian Lane is just about the fight game

"

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A ringside brawl led to their main event clash at Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships, but Mike Perry insists the beef with Julian Lane doesn’t reach beyond the fight game.

In December while Perry was lending his voice to the commentary team at BKFC Fight Night: Tampa, Lane approached the table and threw something at Perry’s head. Moments later, the two fighters were brawling between scheduled fights at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Now, the two men will meet inside the ring at the same arena to headline BKFC: KnuckleMania 2 on Saturday.

“It’s just another fight,” Perry told MMA Junkie. “I’m here to handle business, make a paycheck, take care of my family – try to do make jokes, do something funny, spontaneous. He got an attitude problem, but I’m gonna adjust his attitude on Saturday.”

On Thursday, attitudes certainly flared as things nearly escalated beyond words at the pre-fight press conference. After multiple back-and-forth arguments, Perry pulled out a bat and went towards Lane. The bat, which appeared to be a plastic toy, may very well be what Perry was referring to when he said he wanted to bring some humor to the festivities.

After Lane and Perry’s brawl in December, BKFC decided to book Perry’s first fight with the promotion in the main event, following two title fights. According to Perry, there were multiple opponents available for his BKFC debut, but settled on “The Ultimate Fighter 16” alum Lane after their altercation. For that, Perry believes Lane should show him some gratitude.

“He got the offer and the opportunity and I just want to set him straight,” Perry said. “We don’t have outside business other than the fight game. He wants to act like we do, he’s got problems in the other areas of his life or something where he wants to act like this sh*t is so real, but this is business. Like I said, he should be thanking me I chose to do business with him, but I get why he’s upset because he knows I’m going to punch his face in on Saturday.”

Perry, 30, fought at the highest level of MMA, competing under the UFC’s banner for 15 fights. Since his exit from the promotion last April, Perry has fielded multiple offers from promotions, including an appearance at Triller’s Triad Combat, where he defeated Michael Seals via split decision. BKFC will now host Perry’s next contest on Saturday, but as far as the UFC veteran is concerned, it’s all about the money he’s bringing home rather than worrying about which company is promoting the event.

“In the fight game, it don’t matter what organization you fighting in,” Perry said. “It matter what kind of bag you getting. It matter what kind of noise you make and how you back it up when you talk. So, I’m getting in there to walk on Saturday night, run him down, knock him down, and take that bag to the bank.”

Javier Mendez disagrees with Daniel Cormier’s claim that Islam Makhachev more dangerous than Khabib Nurmagomedov

For Javier Mendez, Islam Makhachev is more skilled than Khabib Nurmagomedov but not more dangerous. Daniel Cormier, who also trained under Mendez at American Kickboxing Academy, said UFC lightweight champion Makhachev is even more dangerous than former champ Nurmagomedov was during his prime. Mendez heavily disagrees. “OK, he’s more...
