Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Calvin Kattar on tap for UFC on ESPN 6 co-main event

As he requested, New England’s Calvin Kattar will be getting a home game this October.

The Massachusetts native will take on Zabit Magomedsharipov in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 6 in Boston. A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the booking with MMA Junkie following a report from ESPN.com. The person requested anonymity because the UFC has yet to make an official announcement.

UFC on ESPN 6 will take place Oct. 18 at TD Garden. The entires card airs on ESPN 2.

The bout will mark Kattar’s second time competing on the UFC stage in his home state. At UFC 220 in January 2018, Kattar (20-3 UFC, 4-1 MMA) earned “Fight of the Night” honors for his battle with New York’s Shane Burgos. The two featherweights went toe-to-toe for two rounds, before Kattar landed a series of strikes on Burgos which ended the bout in the third.

After he suffered the lone loss of his career to Renato Moicano at UFC 223, Kattar has won back-to-back fights. The 31-year-old followed up a first-round TKO of Chris Fishgold with a brutal knockout of Ricardo Lamas at UFC 238 in June. The fight ending sequence from Kattar actually resulted in a broken jaw for the former UFC title challenger.

Magomedsharipov, 28, as quickly climbed the ranks of the UFC featherweight division during his five fights under the promotion’s banner. After submitted Mike Santiago and Sheymon Moraes, Magomedsharipov (17-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) defeated Kyle Bochniak at UFC 223 which earned “Fight of the Night” honors.

After he defeated last-minute replacement Brandon Davis with a Suloev stretch submission at UFC 228, Magomedsharipov earned the judges’ decision against Jeremy Stephens at UFC 235 in March.

The latest UFC on ESPN 6 lineup includes:

  • Dominick Reyes vs. Chris Weidman
  • Calvin Kattar vs. Zabit Magomedsharipov
  • Maycee Barber vs. Gillian Robertson
  • Brendan Allen vs. Eric Spicely
