Pending bout finalization, Team Lloyd Irvin standout Tafon Nchukwi will make his light heavyweight debut against Al Matavao on Sept. 8 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Multiple people with knowledge of the situation confirmed the targeted booking to MMA Junkie on Wednesday and asked to remain anonymous, as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.
Nchukwi (3-0 MMA) is coming off a first-round TKO victory over UFC development deal fighter William Knight. The finish was Nchukwi’s third TKO in as many fights.
Matavao (8-2 MMA) has competed for various promotions over the span of his five-plus-year professional tenure, but prior to 2019, had solely competed under the Alaska FC banner. In February, Matavao finished fellow regional notable Collin Mansanas with strikes at Destiny MMA.
