John Castaneda eager for UFC return after Wineland TKO: ‘I want that feeling again’

John Castaneda is not looking to sit around for long.

The UFC bantamweight is itching it get back in the cage soon despite having just competed this past weekend at UFC Fight Night 185 in Las Vegas. Castaneda (18-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) picked up his first win in the UFC with a first-round TKO of former WEC champion Eddie Wineland.

Having lost his UFC debut in the fight prior, “Sexi Mexi” is eager to continue fighting and build a winning streak.

“It’s the first win and it’s just such a good high,” Castaneda told MMA Junkie Radio. “To be honest, it’s more motivating than anything. I feel like winning is more motivating than losing, and people get pretty motivated. I’ve gotten pretty motivated after some losses, but winning is so contagious.

“It’s like a high that you crave, and I want that feeling again. And what’s going to get me that feeling again? Well, more training – so that’s what I’m going to do.”

Being new in the UFC, Castaneda doesn’t think he’s in any position to call out any fighter on the roster. But he does want to return to the cage fairly quickly.

“No names – I don’t think I’ve earned that just yet.” Castaneda said. “Maybe a couple more wins in the UFC and maybe we’ll start fighting some people we can fight and calling out people out. But to be honest, I’m just super ecstatic about getting a win over a vet like Eddie Wineland.

“And timeline, I just want to stay busy. I’m not injured or beat up at all like I am normally in my fights, so that’s good. We’re right back in the gym. I’m going to stay in shape and hopefully hop right back in in the next month or two.”
