Robbie Lawler offers no excuses after UFC on FOX 26 loss to Rafael dos Anjos: ‘Just wasn’t my night’

WINNIPEG – Robbie Lawler usually doesn’t say much. Following his UFC on FOX 26 loss to Rafael dos Anjos, he said even less.

Former UFC welterweight champion Lawler (28-12 MMA, 13-6 UFC) suffered a lopsided unanimous-decision loss to dos Anjos (28-9 MMA, 17-7 UFC) in Saturday’s FOX-televised headliner, which took place at Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Lawler seemed to have experienced a leg injury midway through the bout. He took a barrage of leg kicks through the fight, but afterward, he wasn’t interested in discussing it.

“It doesn’t matter,” Lawler said at UFC on FOX 26’s post-fight news conference. “He did a great job out there. It just wasn’t my night. He did a great job.”

When asked what went wrong in the fight, Lawler wasn’t particularly interested in discussing the flaws in his performance. Instead, he paid all credit to dos Anjos’ execution.

“I just wasn’t able to do the kind of things I wanted to do,” Lawler said. “He took advantage of – he did a great job out there. Landed some good knees. Landed some good punches, couple takedowns.”

Lawler’s main-event loss marked his first non-title defeat since returning to the UFC in February 2013. It puts the former 170-pound champion in a difficult position in the increasingly deep divisional pecking order, and at this point Lawler admits he doesn’t know what the future holds beyond returning to his Florida residence.

“I’m going to go home tomorrow,” Lawler said. “That’s as far as I’m thinking ahead, I guess.”
