Dustin Poirier teams with Manny Pacquiao, Justin Wren for UFC 264 charity goal to help Pygmies

Dustin Poirier’s charity goal for his UFC 264 trilogy bout with Conor McGregor is once again helping the Pygmies.

Poirier (27-6 MMA, 19-5 UFC) and his charity, The Good Fight Foundation previously partnered with Justin Wren’s Fight for the Fogotten charity to help build water wells for a devastated orphanage in Uganda in the lead-up to his fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242 in September 2019. Now they’re teaming back up, along with boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, to take the next step for the community.

For Poirier’s third and likely final encounter with McGregor in the UFC 264 headliner on July 10 in Las Vegas, the trio will work together to build housing and other community assets across 42 acres of land for the Pygmies by donating $50,000 each. Moreover, UFC commentator, comedian and noted podcast host Joe Rogan will contribute $100,000 the cause.

Wren explained the specifics in the statement below (via Instagram):

We are embarking on the biggest project we’ve ever attempted as we celebrate 10 years of existence with @fightfortheforgotten 🙏🙏🙏 I’m so pumped for the momentum we have!

Thank you to @mannypacquiao for stepping up and donating so big in $50,000! Thank you @dustinpoirier for matching that $50,000! Thank you @joerogan for reaching out and letting me know you are going to match that with $100,000 so we can keep going!

32 new homes are being built for 32 families who have never owned a home, and they are helping build them and learn that skill! Our first MEDICAL CLINIC and PHARMACY is being built. More water wells, with a water tower and tapped water to all the homes! Latrines and hand washing stations… farms… A soccer field… and now maybe a cultural center and school for the Pygmy people.

Anyone who is seeing this, thank you for being part of this journey and supporting in any way you have in the past 10 years. Wether it’s been financially, posting about it, sharing our story, liking our content and sending us good energy and vibes, your thoughts and prayers, thank you!

We still have a long ways to go to complete this project. If you’d like to support you can give us a one time donation at http://www.fightfortheforgotten.org (link in my bio) or even more sustainable and helpful so we can plan ahead you can join our fight club, our monthly giving team of our most loyal supporters. I’d be so grateful if you’d consider helping us see this project thru completion and but love and compassion in action ☺🙏🙏🙏

Thank you – thank you – THANK YOU! Also, follow @thegoodfightfoundation and @pacquiaofoundation to support these great nonprofits 🙏

Poirier told MMA Junkie on Tuesday he’s honored to work toward such a big project. The $50,000 isn’t the stopping point for him, though. For the past several fights, he’s auctioned off his fight-worn gear to raise money to further elevate his goal, and this time will be no different.

“I love the work Justin is doing in Uganda,” told MMA Junkie. “When I saw that he teamed up with Manny Pacquiao and his foundation and that they were looking for someone to match their donation, I knew that’s what we needed to do. The housing is being built on 42 acres of land that we helped buy with money raised from The Good Fight Foundation’s goal during the Khabib fight. So to be able to team up with Justin again and see this all come together is an honor.

“On top of the $50,000 donation, I’m setting up a goal with my foundation and we’ll be raising money in my trilogy with Conor, as well as auctioning off everything I wear in the fight. This money will be used to make sure everything gets completed there for the Pygmy people.”

Pacquiao chimed in on the massive goal, as well, in a social media post (via Twitter):

In the Philippines, there is a value ingrained in our spirit called Bayanihan – being one with the community.

In that spirit, I call on everyone to join @DustinPoirier, @thebigpygmy, and myself as we help fight for the Batwa Pygmies in Uganda and the homeless of our world.

Poirier has used his fight career to help elevate The Good Fight Foundation over the past several years. He’s attached charity goals to each of his fights, with his philanthropic efforts including building water wells to repair a ruined water supply at an orphanage and school in Uganda, building a playground for special needs children, supplying backpacks for more than 500 schoolchildren, and, most recently, providing transportation and tutoring for struggling youth through The Boys & Girls Club of Acadiana.

For the biggest fight of his career against McGregor, Poirier is going big again.
