Askar Askarov and Alex Perez will square off in a pivotal flyweight clash.
Askarov (14-0-1 MMA, 3-0-1 UFC) meets Perez (24-6 MMA, 6-2 UFC) at UFC Fight Night on July 31 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Both fighters confirmed the news on social media following an initial report from BJPenn.com.
Askarov, a former ACB flyweight champion, is unbeaten in his UFC tenure. After battling to a split draw with current UFC 125-pound champ Brandon Moreno in his promotional debut, Askarov has won three straight over Tim Elliott, Alexandre Pantoja and most recently former title challenger Joseph Benavidez at UFC 259 in March.
Dana White’s Contender Series alum Perez is coming off a first-round submission loss to then-flyweight champ Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255 in November. Prior to that, Perez won three straight, including back-to-back “Performance of the Night” finishes of Jordan Espinosa and Jussier Formiga.
With the addition to the card, the July 31 lineup includes:

Anthony Smith knows he’s not currently in the title picture, but hopes he gets an opportunity to face Alex Pereira some day. The pair traded barbs in the past, but Smith insists it’s nothing personal. UFC light heavyweight champion Pereira (10-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) currently awaits his next challenger...
