Ciryl Gane is the 15th undefeated fighter in history to get his hands on a version of a UFC title. He accomplished the feat in Saturday’s UFC 265 main event.
Gane (10-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC) totally outclassed Derrick Lewis (25-8 MMA, 16-6 UFC) in the main event at the Toyota Center in Houston, battering his foe to a third-round TKO to claim the interim championship.
Although there’s a negative stigma around interim belts – especially when they’re unnecessary as this one seemed to be – it’s great for Gane because it for all intents and purposes locks up his next career move.
In this instance, that will come in the form of a championship unification bout with former training partner Francis Ngannou (16-3 MMA, 11-2 UFC).
What should we expect out of that planned matchup? And when could it happen?
Watch the video above for thoughts and analysis coming out of Gane’s interim title win at UFC 265.
