UFC Fight Night 192’s Tony Gravely sought improvement through making himself ‘little fish in big pond’

"

LAS VEGAS – Tony Gravely has been at American Top Team for over a year now and he has no regrets.

A Dana White’s Contender Series alumnus, Gravely (21-6 MMA, 2-1 UFC) rides a two-fight winning streak into his UFC Fight Night 192 bout Saturday against Nate Maness (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC). The proof is in the pudding for Gravely, who moved to South Florida with improvement on his mind – which he has since found.

“It’s an amazing experience,” Gravely said at a pre-fight news conference Wednesday. “When you’re a big fish in a small pond, it’s one thing. But when you become the little fish in the big pond, when you start getting these killers like Pedro Munhoz, Marlon Moraes, Alexandre Pantoja, and other fighters that aren’t in the UFC right now like Kyoji Horiguchi and Adriano Moraes, when you train with those guys every day, you’re going to take some bumps and bruises. But you can see the improvements as it goes on.

“You guys are pushing one another. It’s great to feed off one another. All those guys are coming off big wins. Some are coming off losses, but still, good performances. Getting to feed off that energy and look up to those guys and take bits and pieces of what they taught me and add it to what I do, it’s going to make me more successful.”

UFC Fight Night 192 takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card streams on ESPN+.
