VIDEO: Michael Chandler gets 22 stitches after epic fight with Justin Gaethje at UFC 268
Although Michael Chandler survived Justin Gaethje’s barrage, his face seriously wore it after the fight.
It’s rare for someone to walk out unscathed when they fight Gaethje, and after exchanging leather for three hard rounds at UFC 268, Chandler’s face was absolutely mangled.
According to TMZ, Chandler (22-7 MMA, 1-2 UFC) received 22 stitches all over his face. In the video below, you can see Chandler getting patched up above his right eyebrow, as well as his bottom lip.
The aftermath for Chandler wasn’t pretty, but not enough can be said about his toughness. After a good first round in which he wobbled Gaethje, Chandler was struck with a brutal uppercut in Round 2. But somehow, he survived the onslaught. He never stopped pressing forward and kept waving Gaethje on like a madman, despite the incredible damage he took throughout the fight.
Naturally, their wild affair earned the “Fight of the Night” and is currently a frontrunner for “Fight of the Year.” Chandler appeared to be in good spirits after the fight, but admitted deviating from the game plan likely cost him the bout.
