Albert Tumenov content to keep boxing but wants UFC return: ‘I promise, Dana, you will not regret it’

"

ARLINGTON, Texas – Following a sensational victory at Saturday’s Triller Triad Combat, eight-time UFC veteran Albert Tumenov fancies a return to the world’s biggest MMA promotion.

Tumenov’s striking skills were on display in the mixed-rules event at Globe Life Field, in which he won all seven rounds against veteran boxer Scott Sigmon. Afterward, the 29-year-old Russian lobbied UFC execs for another shot at competing in the organization’s famed octagon.

“I want to say, Dana White, Sean Shelby, I always put on a fire show,” Tumenov told MMA Junkie. “I am the best boxer in MMA. Give me a f*cking contract, and I promise, Dana, you will not regret it.”

It certainly didn’t seem to be an empty promise. After all, Tumenov (21-4 MMA) ended his UFC run on a pair of back-to-back losses, but it came against talented contenders Leon Edwards and Gunnar Nelson. Tumenov has since gone 5-0 while competing abroad.

Saturday’s event was an all-striking affair, and Tumenov looked incredibly crisp en route to the one-sided decision.

“I like boxing because I have good boxing technique,” Tumenov said after the win. “I have good footwork, good timing. Today, I wanted to do a knockout, but my opponent was good – tough guy. Today, I showed my Russian boxing. I am happy.”

If Tumenov isn’t awarded a new UFC deal, he said he’s happy to return to Triller, whether it be in another Triad Combat event or a more traditional boxing contest.

“Triangle, ring, octagon – for me, it doesn’t matter,” Tumenov said. “I’m ready for any level.”

But if the UFC is willing to tender an offer, Tumenov said he won’t be especially particular about the conditions.

“I’m ready,” Tumenov said. “Short-notice fight, full training camp, it doesn’t matter. I’m ready.”
