Yorgan De Castro thinks few are giving him a chance against Junior Dos Santos, but he plans on playing spoiler.
De Castro (8-3) faces Dos Santos (21-9) in Friday’s Eagle FC 47 main event, which takes place at FLXcast Arena in Miami.
Considering former UFC heavyweight champion Dos Santos’ stacked resume, De Castro understands why he’s being underestimated but is looking forward to proving the doubters wrong.
“Absolutely they’re gonna overlook me, but Junior paid his dues in this sport,” De Castro told MMA Junkie Radio. “He’s gonna always be favorite, especially against someone like me. This is my 12th pro fight. Styles make fights, and people think this is a perfect fight for him, but it will be my pleasure to shut everybody up and show that a man with my kind of power, you cannot count me out.”
Despite Dos Santos coming off four straight stoppage losses, De Castro still rates him highly.
“He does have the skills. We cannot forget that Junior was the UFC heavyweight champion and was in the UFC for 12 years,” De Castro said. “He has a lot of skills, great boxing, fast, he’s always in phenomenal shape. I respect and admire him, but I think we’re fighting for different reasons. I don’t know what he’s fighting for, but I’m hungry, I’m starving. This is my time. This fight is gonna give me everything I’ve been working for.”
A win over Dos Santos would mark De Castro’s third straight, and he’s eyeing a shot at gold before the end of the year.
“I will knock out Junior Dos Santos Friday night, and I will fight for the title in September, and I will become Eagle FC heavyweight champ,” he said.
