Shane Burgos wants ranked opponent next, sees Dan Ige or ‘Korean Zombie’ as options

"

ELMONT, N.Y. – Shane Burgos wants to start looking up the rankings once again.

The UFC featherweight hopes to get a step up in competition following his most recent win in the octagon. Shane Burgos (15-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) defeated Charles Jourdain in a majority decision at Saturday’s UFC on ABC 3.

Burgos now is on a two-fight winning streak after a win over Billy Quarantillo in a fight prior to Saturday’s win. The 31-year-old thinks it’s time he gets matched up with the top of the division once again.

“There’s a lot, but I definitely want someone top 15,” Burgos said at the UFC on ABC 3 post-fight news conference. “I think me and (Dan) Ige would be a fun fight. Me and the ‘Korean Zombie’ (Chan Sung Jung) would be a fun fight.

“I don’t know who else off the top of my head, but those fights would be fun. You’ve got guys outside the top 15 that would be fun. But listen, I did that twice already. Guys, give me a ranked guy next, someone that’s going to move me forward.”

Burgos’ priority is to get someone ranked above him. The New York native won’t single out and go after a specific name because he thinks his performance didn’t put him in a position to do so.

“I’m not happy with that performance, (so) how can I call somebody out after that last one?” Burgos said. “A win is a win, 100 percent, 1 billion percent. (I’m) happy with the first two rounds, but f*ck – bad taste for the way that ended. I’m a perfectionist, and I feel that’s going to make me even hungrier and better in the long run.”

Prior to his consecutive wins, Burgos was coming off back-to-back losses to top contenders Josh Emmett and Edson Barboza. Both fights won awards for Fight of the Night.
