UFC champ Kamaru Usman lands role in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman can now put “actor” on his résumé after landing a part in the upcoming “Black Panther” sequel from Disney and Marvel Studios.

Usman, 35, will appear in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which is set to premiere Nov. 11. The extent of Usman’s role and which character he plays are unknown.

MMA Junkie confirmed the news of Usman’s involvement through manager Ali Abdelaziz after UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier mentioned it during the UFC 277 weigh-in show Friday morning on ESPN+.

The first “Black Panther” film was released in 2018 and starred Chadwick Boseman, who played King T’Challa and his alter ego the Black Panther. The franchise will continue on without Boseman, who died in 2020. Disney and Marvel have confirmed that the character T’Challa won’t be recast in the “Wakanda Forever” sequel.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” will be released two months after Usman fights Leon Edwards in a rematch that headlines UFC 278 on Sept. 10 in Salt Lake City. Usman, who hasn’t lost since his second professional fight in 2013, will be going for his sixth consecutive successful title defense.
