Marina Rodriguez dropped the ball when she finally arrived on the doorstop of a title shot as she lost to Amanda Lemos on Saturday in the UFC Fight Night 214 headliner.
After putting together a four-fight winning streak to surge into the title picture, Rodriguez (17-2-2 MMA, 6-2-2 UFC) suffered a third-round TKO loss to Amanda Lemos (13-2-1 MMA, 7-2 UFC) at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, setting her back from her goal of fighting for UFC gold.
Although Rodriguez is clearly one of the best in the strawweight division, the 35-year-old might’ve missed her best chance to make a statement one week ahead of the UFC 281 title fight between Carla Esparza and Rose Namajunas. Instead, she’s forced to go back to the drawing board.
