Bobby Green: ‘I can’t be mad at anybody but myself’ after KO loss to Drew Dober

Bobby Green fell victim to the volatile nature of the fight game with his knockout loss to Drew Dober at UFC Fight Night 216.

After putting on a strong performance in the first round of the lightweight bout on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Green (29-14-1 MMA, 10-9-1 UFC) appeared to be well on his way to victory. But then Dober (26-11 MMA, 12-7 UFC) turned the tide in the second, putting the pressure on and landing a massive left hand that connected on the button for the stunning knockout.

Green, who fights with a somewhat flashy style in keeping his hands down and taunting, was knocked out for just the the fourth time in his nearly 15-year career. Naturally that’s disappointing, but as he stated on social media after the fight, he understands how quickly things can go awry in the octagon.

“It f*cking sucks,” Green said on his Instagram Stories. “Sometimes sh*t f*cking happens. I went out there and done my thing. I thought I was f*cking dominating, I thought everything was going smooth, and sh*t f*cking happens. I can’t be mad at anybody but myself. Drew Dober, you’re an awesome f*cking guy. Sorry if I let you guys down. This is my art. Hopefully you liked it, and I didn’t let you down.”

Although the showdown with Dober received Fight of the Night honors, Green surely would’ve preferred the win. It was an important fight for his career after his controversial U.S. Anti-Doping Agency suspension, but it didn’t go his way and Green is now 2-4 in his past six fights dating back to October 2020.

The 36-year-old doesn’t appear keen to take much time off, however, and hinted a quick turnaround could be coming.

“I will be back soon,” Green said. “Probably sooner than you think.”
