UFC 300 results: Jiri Prochazka goes full samurai, finishes Aleksandar Rakic with relentless ‘storm’

Jiri Prochazka just might be a samurai after all.

In the UFC 300 featured prelim, Prochazka (30-4-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) finished Aleksandar Rakic (14-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC) with a barrage of strikes at 3:17 of Round 2. The light heavyweight bout took place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Rakic worked the leg kicks early, as Prochazka repeatedly switched stances. After a good technical showing from both fighters in Round 1, things picked up action-wise in Round 2, as Prochazka gained energy and steam.

Prochazka rocked Rakic with a combination and put him on the retreat. The more Prochazka landed, the more momentum he gained. Rakic did his best to survive as he absorbed punches and knees from the surging Czech fighter.

A rocking punch put Rakic on skates, as gravity toppled him to the canvas. Prochakza dove on top as Rakic rolled onto his back. Prochazka continued to pound away until referee Herb Dean officially saw enough.

After the fight, Prochazka called for a title shot at the winner of the UFC 300 main event, either Alex Pereira or Jamahal Hill.

Prochazka, 31, gets back in the win column for the first time since a June 2022 title victory over Glover Teixeira. Prochazka then vacated the title due to injury. Jamahal Hill won the title in Prochazka’s absence, but also shortly thereafter vacated due to injury. So upon Prochazka’s return, he fought Alex Pereira for the vacant strap, and lost by second-round TKO. The defeat snapped a 13-fight winning streak.

Rakic, 32, loses in his first fight back from a knee injury that required surgery. He suffered the injury in a May 2022 loss to Jan Blachowicz that snapped a two-fight winning streak.
