UFC 236 press conference with Holloway-Poirier, Gastelum-Adesanya set for Friday

The hype for UFC 236 will officially kick off on Friday with a press conference featuring all four interim title fight athletes.

UFC featherweight champ Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier, who meet in a main-event rematch for the interim lightweight title, will be in attendance. Also, Kelvin Gastelum and Israel Adesanya, who clash for the interim middleweight strap, are scheduled to answer questions from the media.

The press conference is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. ET (3 p.m. PT) from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, prior to the UFC 235 ceremonial weigh-ins, and is free and open to the public.

UFC 236 takes place April 13 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta and airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and UFC Fight Pass.

Holloway (20-4 MMA, 16-4 UFC) and Poirier (24-5 MMA, 16-4 UFC) have fought before. It was February 2012 at UFC 143, with then 20-year-old Holloway making his promotional debut. Poirier, 23 at the time, won by first-round submission via mounted triangle armbar.

Holloway enters on a 13-fight winning streak that dates back to 2014. He most recently defended his 145-pound title with a dominant showcase against Brian Ortega at UFC 231 in December. Poirier brings a five-fight unbeaten streak, including a victory over former UFC champ Eddie Alvarez at UFC on FOX 30 in July.

Thus far in the UFC, it’s been a meteoric rise for Adesanya (15-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC), who will be making his sixth octagon appearance since his debut in February 2018. He’s coming off a unanimous-decision win over Anderson Silva at UFC 234. Gastelum, meanwhile, had been scheduled to challenge champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 234, but the bout was lost on fight day when Whittaker had to undergo emergency surgery. Gastelum (16-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) is riding a two-fight winning streak against Michael Bisping and Ronaldo Souza.
