A big Saturday of fights led to some important changes to the USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie rankings.
Rafael Lovato Jr. stunned most of the MMA world, even the ones who tried to pretend afterwards they knew he would win, when he earned a decision victory over the great Gegard Mousasi to win the Bellator middleweight title in London. That puts the undefeated jiu-jitsu ace into the 185-pound rankings this week, as he debuts at No. 12.
Andrea Lee, meanwhile, improved to 3-0 in the UFC at UFC Greenville. It’s about time she cracks the flyweight rankings, which she does, at No. 13.
Then, an old favorite has rejoined the fray at featherweight. Chan Sung Jungdropped out of the rankings due to inactivity. But “The Korean Zombie” let everyone know that was a temporary situation, as he made short work of Renato Moicano in UFC Greenville’s main event. That puts the former title challenger back into the ratings at No. 14.
