Ready to take the plunge, Ian Heinisch proposes underwater

There’s a million ways to propose to your special someone. Cliches abound, and if you’re not careful, you can end up a viral sensation for all the wrong reasons.

We give the thumbs up to UFC middleweight Ian Heinisch, who popped the question to his sweetie while scuba diving in Mexico.

Given the limited oxygen with which to communicate, Heinisch had a sign ready.

“You’re my treasure,” he wrote. “Joni will you marry me.”

OK, maybe the message was a little cheesy. But Heinisch gets the “A” for effort, and something other than face-punching to plan for in the next few months.

Back on land, Heinisch (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has less than one month until another important date, a showdown with Derek Brunson (19-7 MMA, 10-5 UFC) at UFC 241 that could be the passport to matchups in in the top-five.

Heinisch gutted out a decision over Antonio Carlos Junior despite a rough start in their meeting at UFC on ESPN+ 10. A statement performance against Brunson would go along way toward his title hopes.

But win or lose, he’s got a forever cheering section. Check out the newly engaged couple.

Congrats!
