As he requested, New England’s Calvin Kattar will be getting a home game this October.
The Massachusetts native will take on Zabit Magomedsharipov in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 6 in Boston. A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the booking with MMA Junkie following a report from ESPN.com. The person requested anonymity because the UFC has yet to make an official announcement.
UFC on ESPN 6 will take place Oct. 18 at TD Garden. The entires card airs on ESPN 2.
The bout will mark Kattar’s second time competing on the UFC stage in his home state. At UFC 220 in January 2018, Kattar (20-3 UFC, 4-1 MMA) earned “Fight of the Night” honors for his battle with New York’s Shane Burgos. The two featherweights went toe-to-toe for two rounds, before Kattar landed a series of strikes on Burgos which ended the bout in the third.
After he suffered the lone loss of his career to Renato Moicano at UFC 223, Kattar has won back-to-back fights. The 31-year-old followed up a first-round TKO of Chris Fishgold with a brutal knockout of Ricardo Lamas at UFC 238 in June. The fight ending sequence from Kattar actually resulted in a broken jaw for the former UFC title challenger.
Magomedsharipov, 28, as quickly climbed the ranks of the UFC featherweight division during his five fights under the promotion’s banner. After submitted Mike Santiago and Sheymon Moraes, Magomedsharipov (17-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) defeated Kyle Bochniak at UFC 223 which earned “Fight of the Night” honors.
After he defeated last-minute replacement Brandon Davis with a Suloev stretch submission at UFC 228, Magomedsharipov earned the judges’ decision against Jeremy Stephens at UFC 235 in March.
The latest UFC on ESPN 6 lineup includes:
Max Holloway may have MMA Junkie’s Knockout of the Month, Knockout of the Year, and beyond locked up with his buzzer-beating finish of Justin Gaethje at UFC 300, but that hasn’t stopped other fighters from submitting their entry into the conversation. At LFA 182, Kendra McIntyre did exactly that...
Anthony Smith knows he’s not currently in the title picture, but hopes he gets an opportunity to face Alex Pereira some day. The pair traded barbs in the past, but Smith insists it’s nothing personal. UFC light heavyweight champion Pereira (10-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) currently awaits his next challenger...
