Jessica Andrade was on the receiving end of one of Rose Namajunas’ most masterful in-cage performances – until Andrade grabbed a leg and slammed the champ head-first on the canvas.
After largely being picked apart for the first seven minutes of their strawweight title bout at UFC 237 in May, Andrade clinched Namajunas against the cage. As she attempted to counter the lift of Andrade, Namajunas grabbed wrist control.
UFC commentator Dominick Cruz praised Namajunas’ defense, right before the Brazilian challenger elevated and slammed the American on her head.
Andrade became the first Brazilian strawweight champion in the division’s history and only the third woman from Brazil to wear UFC gold. The knockout not only earned Andrade her $100,000 win bonus, but a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus, as well.
Saturday night, Andrade (20-6 MMA, 11-4 UFC) will look to carry the momentum of his title-clinching victory when she squares off with China’s Weili Zhang (19-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) in the main event of UFC on ESPN+ 15.
UFC on ESPN+ 15 takes place Aug. 31 at the Universiade Sports Center. The main card streams live on ESPN+ after prelims on ESPN.

Just like he did throughout his career, Nursulton Ruziboev hopes he can bounce around weight classes in the UFC. Ruziboev (34-8-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) drops back down to welterweight to face Joaquin Buckley (18-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 56 (ESPN/ESPN+) co-headliner at Enterprise Center in...
