Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal’s ‘BMF’ title does not impress Colby Covington

Unimpressed by the resumes of both Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal, Colby Covington has rebranded their “BMF” title fight.

According to Covington (15-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC), it would be more appropriate if the winner of the UFC 244 headliner between Masvidal (34-13 MMA, 13-7 UFC) and Diaz (20-11 MMA, 18-10 UFC) was awarded the “JMF” title.

In an interview with ESPN on Monday, Covington replaced the “B” in “Bad Motherf****r” with “J” for “Journey.” The former interim welterweight champion first took shots at Diaz’s resume and cited the fact he has a .500 record in the past two years.

“My reaction was like, oh they wanna make a BMF title? It’s really the JMF title – the Journey Mother-effin’ title,” Covington said. “And that’s that. They’re both 50-50 in the last couple years. What’s Nate Diaz, 1-1 in the last three years?

“How does that make you a BMF? You got destroyed by Dong Hyun Kim. You got absolutely obliterated by ‘Ralphy dos Nachos.’ These are two guys that couldn’t even last one round with me. How does that make (Diaz) the BMF? I’m the BMF. I’m the best ever.”

Without hesitation, Covington pivoted and turned his attention to his “ex-best friend,” Masvidal. While Masvidal has won his past two fights with devastating knockouts, Covington is unimpressed Masvidal has gone 2-2 in his last four.

Covington, whose planned UFC 244 title fight with Kamaru Usman fell apart in negotiations, denied any notion that either Masvidal or Diaz could be considered a “money fight.” If the UFC wanted a money fight, they should have gone in a different direction, said Covington.

“And Jorge, 2-2 in his last four fights, 5-5 in his last 10 fights,” Covington said. “That sounds like a journeyman to me. Journey Mother-effin’ title. JMF title in Madison Square Garden. It ain’t gonna sell anything.

“Those guys don’t sell. They’re not gonna be putting the load on their back like I would do for New York. They ain’t gonna bring the Trumps front row like I would bring. It’s gonna be another sh*t show.”

UFC 244 takes place Nov. 2 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and ESPN+/UFC Fight Pass.
