An amateur mixed martial artist has died as a result of injuries sustained in a bout over the weekend.
Saeideh Aletaha, 26, died Sunday morning after collapsing in the ring following a fight at Fast and Furious Fight Series 19, which was held at Central Hall in Southampton, England on Saturday night.
According to the BBC, Aletaha was rushed to Southampton General Hospital after sustaining head injuries during her bout and collapsed. Hampshire Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Aletaha’s gym, Exile Gym in Southampton, posted on Facebook about the loss of their friend.
“Saeideh Aletaha was a lovely character with a beautiful soul. Her dedication to the sport was 110% traveling miles every day just to train. She found her place with us just a few months ago but has become apart of the family and will be sorely missed,” the post read in part.
The Fast and Furious Fight Series promotion also released a statement on Facebook.
