Anthony Smith finds it ‘criminal’ he’s a 3-1 underdog against Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 277

Anthony Smith is surprised to see how big of an underdog he is against Magomed Ankalaev.

Smith (36-16 MMA, 13-8 UFC) faces Ankalaev (17-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) at UFC 277 on July 30 and currently is a +300 betting underdog at Tipico Sportsbook.

When the odds were presented to him at the time (+350), Smith was baffled, but is looking forward to playing spoiler again.

“+350? Go get your money,” Smith said in an interview with The Schmo. “+350? That’s crazy. That’s criminal. If I was fighting goddamn Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou at the same time, I shouldn’t be a f*cking +350. That’s crazy.”

Smith is coming off three straight finishes of Devin Clark, Jimmy Crute and Ryan Spann. With a win over the streaking Ankalaev, “Lionheart” hopes to earn another shot at gold.

“I’m really motivated for this one,” Smith said. “It’s no secret I’ve struggled to find motivation at times, but this one there’s no lack of motivation for sure. I’ve got a really dangerous guy in front of me who everyone kind of deems as the boogeyman, and that’s really exciting for me, how dangerous everyone else thinks he is.

“So I’m excited to go in there. I feel like I’ve been getting a lot better. I’m in way better shape and in a better spot this far out from a fight than I’ve been in a long time. I’m excited. I think people are writing me off just a little bit.”
