SAN JOSE, Calif. – Rogelio Luna vs. Socrates Hernandez wasn’t Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar, but it may have been the Bellator prelim equivalent.
Over the course of nearly a full 15 minutes, Luna (1-0 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) and Hernandez (0-2 MMA, 0-2 BMMA) went to war. There wasn’t much defense, but the crowd didn’t care. Both fighters whacked each other over and over again, with each in trouble at various points in the bout until Luna scored a merciful TKO at 4:48 of Round 3.
Bellator 277 took place Friday at SAP Center. As the third fight of the card moved along, the fighters’ energies wavered, but their efforts did not. The further the fight went, the more Luna, however, pulled away. The third round was largely one-sided as Hernandez was battered to the face and body but stayed upright.
As the clock wound past one-minute left in Round 3, Luna shifted his output into the highest gear possible. Hernandez was too tough for his own good and referee Blake Grice eventually recognized that as he saved him from damage with 12 seconds left.
