The ongoing drama between Cris Cyborg and the UFC took another turn on Friday evening.

Cyborg, the former UFC featherweight champion, went on the offensive over social media this week following the expiration of her UFC contract. First, she demanded an apology from UFC president Dana White and color commentator Joe Rogan over what she considered bullying and harassment years ago.

Then she posted a video of a backstage talk after UFC 240, calling accusing White of lying over social media.

On Friday, White responded by posting a UFC-produced video in which he said they are “getting out of the Cyborg business,” saying the company will not hold her to contractual periods of exclusive negotiation or right to match offers from other promotions.

Friday night, Cyborg backtracked on the UFC 240 backstage video in a post on her Instagram account.

In it, she said her production team edited the video and subtitles in a manner which made it appear as if White said things he didn’t.

The post read, in part:

Dana and I have had many disagreements during my career in the UFC, and I have been adamant about standing up for myself in situations where I feel my character and statements have been misrepresented and used against me. But I also take pride in being an honest person and a true professional. I take full responsibility for the actions that resulted in the edited video being posted on my social media accounts. We were wrong, and I have addressed this issue with my Production Team so that it doesn’t ever happen again in the future. ​

Might this re-open the door to a possible return to the UFC for Cyborg, and a rematch with Amanda Nunes which is undoubtedly an even bigger deal than it was when Friday started? Perhaps, considering Dana White reposted Cyborg’s post with the comment “Thank you, Cris.”
