Different promotion, same process for Myles Jury ahead of Bellator 227 headliner against Benson Henderson

DUBLIN – Myles Jury will compete under a new promotional banner Friday, but it’s all just the same for him.

A former member of the UFC’s featherweight roster, “Fury” made the jump to Bellator in July after he lost back-to-back outings to Andre Fili and Chad Mendes.

In his promotional debut, Jury (18-4 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) takes on former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson (27-8 MMA, 4-3 BMMA) in the three-round main event of Bellator 227.

Bellator 227/Bellator Europe 4 takes place Friday at 3Arena in Dublin. The Bellator 227 main card airs on Paramount and streams on DAZN via tape delay following live prelims on MMA Junkie. The Bellator Europe 4 main card streams on the Bellator app.

“No changes,” Jury told MMA Junkie while comparing UFC and Bellator fight weeks. “It’s been the same process getting in, checking in. It’s been cool meeting the whole Bellator team. Everyone’s been awesome. I haven’t done weigh-ins or the fight yet, but so far it’s been the usual.”

Friday’s fight will mark the first time Fury has competed at lightweight since he lost a unanimous decision to Donald Cerrone in January 2015. The native of Hazel Park, Mich., said he isn’t willing to commit to a permanent weight class right now.

“I’m not sure – I might go back down to 145, or I might say at 155 depending on the opportunities that are thrown my way,” Jury said. “I do feel really good at 155. I feels strong and faster (with) more calories – and a little bit happier.”

Over the span of his 22-fight professional career, Jury has defeated a who’s-who of notable names, including Michael Johnson, Takanori Gomi and Diego Sanchez. A win over Henderson could be the most prolific name he’s beaten to date.

“Fighting somebody like Benson is a good task for me,” Jury said. “I’ve fought all over the world. I’ve fought some of the biggest names around. Fighting somebody like Benson is what I want. That’s how I’m going to grow as a fighter, and that’s going to push me to that next level. So that’s why I took the opportunity to test myself against him.”

When he steps into the cage in Dublin for the first time, Jury expects a surreal environment. One day, Jury said, he’ll be able to tell his grandchildren about the time their grandfather competed in front of an audibly passionate Irish crowd.

“That’s (going to be) another crazy experience in life,” Jury said. “Again, these are all just experiences for me. It’s a journey for me, and to be able to go out and fight in front of a crowd like that? It’s going to be another crazy story to tell my grandchildren when I’m older. Like, ‘(Grandpa) fought in front of 10,000 screaming Irish people going crazy. But it was awesome.’”

Michael Bisping warns Michael Chandler not to underestimate Conor McGregor: ‘Can’t be drunk on your own ego’

Michael Bisping thinks Michael Chandler would be making a grave mistake by underestimating Conor McGregor. Chandler (23-8 MMA, 2-3 UFC) welcomes McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) back in a welterweight bout, which headlines UFC 303 June 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+). McGregor hasn’t competed...

Karine Silva explains how fast UFC rise was actually deceivingly long

LAS VEGAS – Karine Silva has heard the praise. Even though the narratives are largely complementary, Silva (17-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC) admits her run toward UFC notoriety isn’t as quick and effortless as it may seem. “It wasn’t quick, guys. It wasn’t fast,” Silva told MMA Junkie and other...
