Henry Cejudo on UFC 250 title defense scratch: ‘GOAT will be served another day’

Henry Cejudo is taking the postponement of his first UFC bantamweight title defense in stride.

Cejudo (15-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) confirmed he won’t be fighting on May 9 at UFC 250 after the promotion indefinitely suspended all upcoming events due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. He was originally slated to defend against Jose Aldo in Sao Paulo, but the Brazilian was ruled out as international travel restrictions tightened and he couldn’t make his way to the U.S., where the UFC intended to move the fight before pulling the plug.

There was a brief period where Cejudo looked like he might get a replacement opponent in former UFC and WEC champ Dominick Cruz. However, right around the time of those discussions, the UFC fight schedule was put on hold. Therefore, Cejudo said his next victim will have to wait.

Big thank you to my training partners and coach’s for these last incredible weeks of training. The goat rampage is officially postponed. 🔪🐐 Goat will be served another day….. #andstill4ever

Cejudo’s fight at UFC 250 was going to mark his return to competition after 11 months. The former flyweight champion captured the 135-pound belt against Marlon Moraes at UFC 238 this past June and then was subsequently forced to undergo shoulder surgery.

It remains to be seen how the UFC will book Cejudo in his return. They could reschedule the Aldo or Cruz matchups, while other contenders such as Aljamain Sterling, Petr Yan and Cory Sandhagen also exist.
