Their bout went the full 15 minutes, but Gegard Mousasi and Lyoto Machida walked away relatively unscathed at Bellator 228.
The pair of middleweight combatants were two of the 22 fighters who only received mandatory minimum suspensions as a result of Saturday night’s card.
Bellator notables Henry Corrales and Antonio McKee joined Emilio Williams, Jonathan Quiroz, and Mike Jasper as the five fighters given the longest suspension duration of 180 days.
Corrales, who lost a three-round unanimous decision to former bantamweight champion Darrion Caldwell, suffered a left elbow injury and cut to the right eye.
In his first contest since 2014, the 49-year-old McKee suffered a right knee injury in his third-round TKO victory over William Sriyapai on the prelims.
Despite going five rounds against undefeated challenger Juan Archultea, featherweight champ Patricio Freire also received the minimum seven-day suspension. Archuleta received a 60-day suspension (or until cleared by a physician) due to a cut.
Daniel Weichel not only earned a quarterfinal slot in the featherweight grand prix, but a suspension to go along with it. The German fighter was also suspended 60 days (or until cleared) due to a cut.
Featherweight Georgi Karakhanyan was among the six Bellator 228 fighters issued the mandatory 45-day suspension (with 30 days no contact; no exception) for having suffered an eight-second knockout loss to A.J. McKee.
Bellator 228 took place Saturday at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., near Los Angeles. The main card streamed on DAZN following prelims on MMA Junkie.
