Jake Paul wants to fight a ‘real boxer,’ says Tommy Fury at the top of his list

"

Jake Paul has moved past Tyron Woodley and is looking to face a legitimate boxer next.

The YouTube star continued his rise after most recently outpointing former UFC welterweight champion Woodley last month in Cleveland. But despite being 4-0 in the ring, Paul is yet to face an actual boxer, and he wants to change that. He was rather dismissive of a potential rematch with Woodley, even though he agreed to his altered bet that he’d run things back if Woodley got Paul’s name tattooed on him.

“I think it’s on to bigger and better things,” Paul said on the “Full Send Podcast” released Wednesday. “I want to fight a real boxer. We’ll see what the cards have in store.”

He continued, “I think Tommy Fury is probably the top of that list. He’s skilled, he’s undefeated, and he’s a real boxer. He has like 4 million followers on Instagram, which is good engagement. He has the fans from like his relationship show (‘Love Island’).”

Fury, who defeated Paul’s training partner, Anthony Taylor, on the same night, proceeded to call out Paul after his win. The pair got involved in a backstage altercation, and it appears Paul has changed his tune about potentially tussling with the unbeaten 22-year-old Brit.

Paul went on to explain how fighting someone notable is something he takes into consideration, which is why he sees double incentive in fighting the younger brother of heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury.

“It all starts with the numbers,” Paul said. “Like, would this fight sell a lot? Would people actually care? Because I could go in right now and fight the infamous jiu-jitsu guy (Dillon Danis) who doesn’t shut the f*ck up on social media, but it’s a hard sell. It’s like (I) just beat a UFC Hall of Fame legendary striker. We’re not going to put (me) up against a jiu-jitsu guy in a boxing match.

“So now, after each fight, we go back to the drawing board, and we’re like, Who makes the most sense? Can they actually sell pay-per-views? And can we actually sell this fight as, like, ‘This is a tough fight for Jake.’ Because that’s what I want.”

Much to the surprise of many, Paul entered his fight with Woodley as a betting favorite, despite Woodley’s vast experience in mixed martial arts. So moving forward, Paul wants to continue looking for a step up in competition.

“I’ve been the favorite,” Paul said. “So now I almost want to go into a fight where it’s like, ‘There’s no way he’s going to do this.’ I just want to continue to prove people wrong because I could take a social media influencer right now and fight them and make a decent bag. There’s an NFL player that wants to fight me – it’s just a tough sell because I did all of that.”
