NEWARK, N.J. – Kennedy Nzechukwu beat Darko Stosic by unanimous decision to close the main card at UFC on ESPN 5 in Newark, N.J.
Take a look inside the fight with Nzechukwu, who took home the win despite taking three illegal kicks to the groin.
Result: Kennedy Nzechukwu def. Darko Stosic via unanimous decision (29-26, 28-27, 28-27)
Updated records: Nzechukwu (7-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC), Stosic (13-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC)
Key stat: Stosic was deducted two points for three illegal groin strikes, but outlanded Nzechukwu in significant strikes (60 to 50) and completed four takedowns to Nzechukwu’s zero.
“I didn’t implement the game plan,” he said. “I wanted to put more pressure on him. I need to go back to the drawing board.”
“This win is bittersweet,” he said. “I didn’t perform. In the gym, I’m a killer, but that doesn’t mean anything if I can’t implement the game plan. I’m just happy I got the win.”
“I need to take time to heal up and get better,” he said. “I’ll fight whoever the boss gives me next.”
